The weather is a trap
Aug. 12th, 2008 09:54 pmIt is cool enough outside that yet again I have the AC off and my windows open. Clearly the weather is trying to trick me somehow.
In the meanwhile, links. Not many so no cut:
I know at least one person on my flist would want to know that Actor Joe Kudle of "Puke and Snot" passed away recently.
ladybug218 brings us links on dealing with panic attacks.
Fans of steampunk may be interested in this discussion on celebrating a time in history that might not be worth celebrating, especially for people of color.
I admit to having as much of a problem with "HOW DARE YOU DO SOMETHING THAT MIGHT VAGUELY ENCOURAGE GIRLS TO THINK ABOUT POSSIBLY HAVING SEX?" as I do with "GIVE YOUR DAUGHTERS THIS MEDICINE... UNLESS YOU WANT THEM TO DIE." Salon talks about those very issues as they relate to the safety of Gardasil.
You've probably heard by now that China pulled a Milli Vanilli with the little girl who performed for the Opening Ceremony. Many have pointed out how horrible it is for the little girl who was hidden from view for the good of her country. Not as many have pointed out how bad it is that the 9 year old that they showed was given the lesson that all she was good for was looking cute. (Not to mention how she's now been tainted as the lip-synching faker.) It sucks for both girls, is what I'm saying. And wow how stupid on the part of those responsible.

So work basically kicked my ass today. In a good way, with much praise being heaped upon yours truly for both the work I'd put into a certain project, and for ordering awesome food for lunch (I have no doubts it was the latter that had the greatest impact ;) ). Which is all well and good but afterwards I went into an adrenaline crash that has yet to leave me. It also may or may not have any relation to the physical crash I experienced when picking up dinner and did not notice a HUGE step between the door and the floor, and startled the ever-loving Hell out of the poor kitchen staff. (All of whom were very nice about checking on me.) (Me: "I'm fine. I just thought I'd drop in for some food?")
So I am battered and bruised both mentally and physically. Which is why I bring interesting links and then slink off into the night to snuggle with cats and read and probably go to bed early.
( I now present: links )
And that's it for me. Tomorrow starts the family reunion so I'll probably be scarse over the weekend. I'll miss you!

Allow me to present....
Jul. 26th, 2008 08:47 pmSpent most of my day out fighting weeds instead of doing something useful, like napping. Which is to say I'm fairly brain-dead at the moment, but I still bring you links.
( Good evening and welcome to the TBQ show... )

Short radio TBQ post, which shall be followed by a separate post for my storm pictures:
You know, I've been experiencing a ton of job satisfaction lately. But if I wasn't, I wonder if getting a job here would be a good idea?
Normally I'm not for linking to lolcats, but May I present to you... just makes me giggle like the total dork that I am.
A surgeon is sued after giving an anesthetized patient a temporary tattoo. I'm with The Angry Black Woman blog on this one.
Steampunk elephant! I repeat, STEAMPUNK ELEPHANT!!!!
And should one have a need, suggestions on how to disappear without a trace. "Skip the part about forwarding your mail" is taken as a given, I assume.

Am trapped under a cat. Send help. In the meanwhile, latest from my feeds:

Again with the disguistingly nice day outside. Though it was a wee bit warm. Still, I was able to walk to the store and to pick up dinner. This is when I learned that shows like What Not to Wear are so right when they talk about you never know who you're going to run into when you're out. I nearly bumped into someone from work. I was dressed okay enough for a weekend, but hadn't had a chance to shower after housecleaning and working with my plants and the aforementioned walk. Luckily I don't think I was spotted. Whew.
Now then, on to tonight's addition of Radio TBQ. ( As always, tags indicate subjects )

Updates, RadioTBQ and otherwise
Jul. 10th, 2008 11:24 pmHad a great night tonight. Did a new thing which I may go into more detail on once it's a not-so-new thing and thus out of the shakey larval stage. But it was a positive experience so yay for that.
Ow ow ow - currently being kneaded on by a kitty who needs her claws trimmed. In related news, Luna says hi.
Now on to the links of the day. Not too many tonight, but it'll go behind a cut tag all the same. ( Cut tags make things neater! )
And that is actually that. Woohoo!

Ramblings on the subject of me
Jun. 20th, 2008 11:47 pmSummer hours are a wonderful invention and I highly recommend them. As do my cats, who feel it is only right and just that I come home early in order to snuggle with them.
I am enjoying geeky productivity at work. The sort of thing where I complete some if not all of what I'm doing and then do a happy bounce of joy at what I created.
If you know me then you don't have to ask if this involves actual bouncing.
I've come to a crossroads about dance. Due to many factors, not the least of which is the realization that it takes me longer to drive back and forth to class than I spend in the actual class (as well as a suspicion that the learning has pleateaued due to the teacher's interests and experience), I am mulling the decision to quit tribal belly dance and move on to other things. It's not an easy decision as I adore tribal (and recently bought a new skirt for it and everything!) but I also feel like my enjoyment is going to experience diminishing returns. There are some local schools that, though they do not teach belly dance, do teach some forms of dance that I am interested in. So I've sent some feelers out to get more information about those. There may not be much progress due to reduced summer hours at the schools, but at least I can get the ball rolling.
My plants are not dead yet, which is good.
The more I see of steampunk the more I think it's very shiny.
Time and weather permitting, tomorrow I will give my new clothespin bag a try.
