thebratqueenSo work basically kicked my ass today. In a good way, with much praise being heaped upon yours truly for both the work I'd put into a certain project, and for ordering awesome food for lunch (I have no doubts it was the latter that had the greatest impact ;) ). Which is all well and good but afterwards I went into an adrenaline crash that has yet to leave me. It also may or may not have any relation to the physical crash I experienced when picking up dinner and did not notice a HUGE step between the door and the floor, and startled the ever-loving Hell out of the poor kitchen staff. (All of whom were very nice about checking on me.) (Me: "I'm fine. I just thought I'd drop in for some food?")
So I am battered and bruised both mentally and physically. Which is why I bring interesting links and then slink off into the night to snuggle with cats and read and probably go to bed early.
World's oldest joke found to be a fart gag. Which is interesting in and of itself but Shakesville astutely points out how all of the jokes in the article involve putting down women and none of the reporters seem to find that newsworthy.
Celebrechauns. AKA groupies who only care about getting some hot nerdy web business ass. I... can't help but feel that much like actual lepruchauns, they do not exist.
Hathor Legacy has an interesting writeup on Katherine Heigl and all the brouhaha currently surrounding her. Personally my reaction was that lately she's coming off as a bit of a pill, but they make a good point by citing examples of male actors who have done similar things but weren't blasted for it nearly as hard as she has. Which makes me happy because I don't want to dislike the person who said that Isaiah Washington needed to shut his homophobic ass the hell up. (And thus - by virtue of being a photogenic female - brought attention to an issue that probably wouldn't have gotten as much press if she hadn't opened her mouth.)
Women Deserve Better. Indeed they do.
Didn't you silly women know that if you donate eggs it's supposed to be from the goodness of your heart?. How dare you do such a thing for money! Not, of course, that men who use sperm banks like ATMs would ever have to face the same judgement.
Steampunk flying toasters. Not the Cylon kind. The After Dark kind.
Sexual harrassment is okay, because it ensures the continuation of the human race. You know, it's not often that you can look at the characters on Mad Men as being progressive.
Books written by women get chick-lit covers regardless of whether the content inside is chick-lit itself. I feel like this should be replied to with a photoshop contest where "manly men" books get chick-lit covers. Like when people drew male superheroes using the "pointed feet, lots of curves" rules for drawing female ones. What would a chick-lit cover of, say, the entire Grisham collection look like?
Female bloggers not taken as seriously as males. I think the only people stunned by that would be male, and they probably didn't read the article anyway.
Repair your own books. Does not include instructions for healing the psychic wound that will be left on your soul every time you look at the cracked spines of your beloved paperbacks. NOT THAT I HAVE ISSUES.
Heard of alpha-males? How about Gamma Women? Whenever I read things like this I'm always distracted by being amazed that for the billions that is spent trying to analyze consumers in order to market products to them, it takes so freakin' long for them to discover that not everyone shops the same. Then I get distracted by singing "Doc Bruce Banner / belted by gamma rays / turned into the Hulk..."
And that's it for me. Tomorrow starts the family reunion so I'll probably be scarse over the weekend. I'll miss you!
