Another day, another RadioTBQ.
"Under the guise of looking for women who felt truly comfortable in their own skin, no matter what they looked like, they asked us to bare all or most of it, to prove just how comfortable we really were." A very special episode of Facts of Life? Nope. An audition for Dove's campaign for real beauty.
Internal Documents from the Tobacco Industry. They don't actually have diabolical laughter spelled out all "MWAHAHAHAHAHA" style, but they are still interesting to read. Topics covered include movie placements and advertising to kids.
Teacher sells ads on tests to cover printing costs. There's a lot of comments to be made here, such as about advertising and kids, but let's not forget the additional beauty of how well our schools are funded. When you've reached the point where you can barely afford to give out tests at what point do you say that the system is too crappy to go on?
Hand Me Downs is a place where you can sell or give away kid-related items that you're not using anymore, and likewise find them for cheap. It also gives results from places like Craigslist and the like, successfully answering the question of "Why use this when we already have Craigslist?"
Smith and Mills is a steampunk-ish restaurant in TriBeCA. I may need to check this out.
Getting along with difficult relatives over the holidays. Okay it's actually for Thanksgiving but none of the tips are so turkey-specific that they can't be extended to December gatherings.
Taxis by women, for women. I agree with how on the one hand it's nice for the women who need these kinds of taxis to have an option, though on the other hand it's sad that there are women who need these kinds of taxis.
Since he could speak, Brandon, now 8, has insisted that he was meant to be a girl. This summer, his parents decided to let him grow up as one. Interesting article about transgender children, and the adults who aren't sure what's best for them.
The Slow Blog Movement. Which sounds so wrong when written out that way. But the idea is to take time, think about what you write, and post thoughtfully (as opposed to fast-blogging which would be exemplified by things like Twitter) (not that there's anything wrong with Twitter).
Scientists Dance Their PhD. It's exactly what it says on the tin. Some of them are really clever!
Project Euler. Where math nerds go to have fun.
Roger Ebert delivers an EPIC smackdown to Ben Stein. "Besides, I would not describe the Vatican as liberal. Look how cautiously it approached Galileo."
