Anyone out there up for betaing a piece of original fiction for me? It's about 2000 words and I'd scoot it to you as an RTF file.

Quick turnaround time (say, by Monday the latest) would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

ETA: Got enough now, thank you thank you thank you!

Hey y'all! Allow me to introduce you to Alleys and Doorways, a new anthology from Torquere Press. Per the TP website:

Do you like your fantasy urban? Do you want your magic real? Then look to Alleys and Doorways. Editor Meredith Schwartz brings tales of magic and mystery, all set in the cities of our realities and imaginations.

From magic users to elves, dragons to demon lovers, the stories as are diverse as they are heated. Authors like Sean Michael, BA Tortuga, Steve Berman and AJ Grant give us the experience of gay love and romance, and all the magic we can dream of!

And if THAT is not sexy enough, the anthology was edited by none other than [livejournal.com profile] stakebait and not only includes a story by yours truly, but by [livejournal.com profile] airawyn who is the next Joss Whedon in the making, just you wait and see.

But don't take my word for it. Have a taste of my story:

There's a dragon. )

Still curious? Check out the great review by Chris Owen. Then stop denying yourself this fabulous bit of fantasy and enjoyment and give yourself a post-holiday treat by buying it for only $5.95.

Enjoy!

First off, happy birthday [livejournal.com profile] woodface!

Second, the Nov issue of Reflection's Edge is up and features, amongst other snazzy stuff, an article by yours truly. It's called Characters on the Couch: Depression and is all about how to write about Depression a) accurately and b) without boring the everliving crap out of your audience.

Go! Read! Enjoy! =)

It is my pleasure to announce the publication of a new anthology, Sleeping Beauty, Indeed which contains fic from such spiffy people as [livejournal.com profile] stakebait and yours truly. It's an anthology of fairy tales, some classics, some rare, some totally new, all with a lesbian twist.

My story is called The Mute Princess and if you'd like a free sample: Here it is )

All that for the low, low price of $5.95. What's not to love? =)

Big pimpin'

ZOMG!!! New House show!!! No, not that one. No, not like that either. The House series that they show on PBS. This time it's a Texas Ranch House which, since it's an American cast, means there is a high probability that the people on it will suck (see also: Colonial House) but still! House show! ZOMG! YAY!!!

(So now I have to run home like a running fast thing to zip into my apartment, set my Tivo for tonight's ep at 8pm, then run out for the stupid co-op board meeting quick like a weetiny bunny. Grrr.)

Also! In other pimping news, Reflection's Edge's May issue is up, complete with THE BESTEST ARTICLE EVER (aka one written by yours truly) Go! Read! Shoo, shoo!
thebratqueen: Captain Marvel (pagan)
The latest issue of Reflection's Edge is now online. [livejournal.com profile] stakebait is the featured author for this month (YAY!!) with her story Override. And yours truly covers Wicca/neo-Paganism for dummies with How Not To Be Turned Into A Frog.

And other people do other stuff too. But Mer! Me! What more could you want? ;)

I've decided to make egg drop soup this weekend. I've never done this before but I'm looking forward to the process. question for those who have made it before )

I'm also hoping to try to get some shopping done this weekend but we'll see how that goes. Supposedly we're going to get rain and hail (note to [livejournal.com profile] hampden that's real hail, not your wimpy stuff) so this may make me more inclined to stay at home. Which is also fine b/c the house really needs a good cleaning.

On the pimping scale, Reflection's Edge has just put up its July issue. It includes an article by yours truly called They Stake Dead Guys, Don't They? It's a fabulous, funny, informative read which contains 100% less of the porn than my previous article, but on the other hand you get to hear me cracking wise about vampires and how is that not enjoyable for everyone? It is the magic.

Also [livejournal.com profile] stakebait has a story in there called Double Time. So fabulous fiction and non-fiction in the same issue. You can't beat that with a stick, don't even try.

Also there may be other people who scribbled or mumbled something but they can get their own LJs to pimp that. All about me, baby! That's right, we bad, we bad.

Now go, read, shoo!

Ahem:

Torquere Press announces the release of Naughty.

What is Naughty? To some folks it’s the opposite of nice. To some people it’s pure raunch. In the Naughty anthology, edited by M. Rode, it’s something extraordinary. The stories in the Naughty nudge. They wink. They hide in dark corners and do things that no one would do in polite company.

These stories are bursting at the seams with sex, intrigue, and the occasional spanking. The characters will engage you and their actions will leave you gasping. All of the favorite Torquere Press authors are here, including BA Tortuga and Kathleen Dale, as well as newcomers such as AJ Grant and Alex Exley. Check it out today and have some Naughty fun!

That's right, it's a new anthology and in case you couldn't tell by my subtle use of bolding, yours truly is in it. I could not be happier or more squeeful.

The anthology itself kicks ass. I've read through it and the stories are hot and fun and fab. But of course this is the all about me journal so, just for you guys, a quick taste of the bit I did:

Denial.... )

That's all! First one's free! As for the rest... hey, it's less than five bucks and all you gotta do is click this super-sexy link right here (go on, you know you want to).

There, self-pimping all done. Now I can go shimmy.

You know, it seems almost criminal that there can be an article called 'You've seen Star Wars, now what?' that doesn't reference Serenity. I suppose there's something to be said for not shoehorning it into the SW void, but by the same token this is the news, which tends not to care overmuch about nuance. If Serenity was in any way on their radar it should've been mentioned in that article. Humph.

One judge's sentence: go to church. Because that's not a separation of church and state issue. ("I said 'worship services'." So atheists can go fuck themselves, one assumes?)

Finally, allow me to do some pimping of this month's issue of Reflection's Edge which contains an article by yours truly on writing man on man action that's so hot it needed a special warning and a fire extinguisher, baby!

Or, you know, just the special warning. Apparently I don't know my own strength. Ahem. But still! Go! Read! It's the finest in pornographic edu-tainment! Fun for the whole family as long as they're of legal age to be clicking on that link! Woohoo!

As I continue to catch up...

[livejournal.com profile] wisdomeagle posted the results to the poll on Jossverse character preferences. There's some interesting data on who people relate to, who they like to write, who they're not interested in and so on. I was surprised at some of the findings. Go see for yourself. It definitely provides a useful perspective on discussions about which specific characters or types of characters are adored vs. ignored.

Yours truly has a piece in this month's Reflection's Edge. You'll probably be able to guess which one it is. 8)

Speaking of writing, before I left for Connexions [livejournal.com profile] flaming_muse said she'd break my fingers if I didn't stop bitching and moaning clear my head by writing something purely for myself. Time permitting, we'll see if that happens. The fun part is that the weekend of enforced time away from the computer did a lot to help clear the system... and get the plot bunnies flowing. So many ideas for Protocol, oh yes my precious.....

Okay, those of you who volunteered to help out with the thing have all gotten a reply from me about which LJ to friend. I've since made the post private so if you volunteered and didn't get the info in your email let me know and I can mail it to you directly.

And those of you who don't know what I'm talking about... um... look! A fuzzy tiger! 8)

Sleep! Glorious sleep! Thanks to the wonders of cough syrup I was able to fall asleep and stay that way for hours and hours and hours. Ahh, bliss. Though bliss filled with at least 2 nightmares that I can remember. Sign of stress or inadvertant side effect of the medicine? Perhaps some from column A and some from column B.

The snow last night was very pretty and looks to be mostly melted now. I bet if I waited long enough I wouldn't even have to clean off my car. However I'm actually possessed of some energy and desire to get out of the house, so I think I'm going to go out for a bit and do some book shopping. [livejournal.com profile] triskellian has pimped the wonders of CSS to me and now my geeky heart wants to play. I've looked through some online lessons and have been quite happy to discover that it's not as complicated to pick up as I thought.

I'm always fascinated by the process of learning things. It amazes me how something can seem incomprehensible and impossible when you first look at it, but once it's broken down into parts it all clicks and makes sense. This is part of why I've made it a goal for myself to learn at least two new things a year. I may not end up liking said things and wanting to make a habit or hobby out of them, but it's good to learn and find out how stuff works. Or at least I think so.

Speaking of learning new things, I'd like to share my experiences in the publishing world by giving a word of wisdom to the rest of you: when sending things out for publication, particularly via online submission, something you're going to want to avoid doing is titling the piece something like - oh let's just make up an example - "Rejection". Because what's going to happen is that you'll hear back from said publishers and said publishers will be kind enough to include your story title in the subject heading of their email, and you will see said email and leap to a very understandable though fortunately incorrect conclusion about what the contents of said email are about.

Not that this has happened to me, of course. [makes mental note to never use another story title that does not contain the words "Accepted" or, perhaps "Allow us to give you large sums of money, you goddess, you."]

So how's your day going?
thebratqueen: Captain Marvel (glasses)
Tonight is take 3 of me attempting to go to belly dance class in the new year. Take 1 was a cancelled class due to weather, take 2 was me crawling my way home before I got totally lost and/or killed in the fog, and take 3 is tonight. I remain hopeful. According to my teacher there were 7 people in the class last week total, so we may actually have a little tribe going for ourselves. At least assuming they keep showing up.

BTW, did you notice how if you write today's date out in numbers you make the year? 1/20/05. See? It's like a little Easter egg.

Looks like I'll definitely be moving my website to a new domain and location, so won't all of you who have links to me be thrilled? Since the website itself is geting an overhaul and that probably won't be done until I have a week of more or less free time next month (why yes, my boss is going on vacation then, how could you tell?) what I've decided to do is get the new space set up now, but keep the old one for a month longer so I can use that time to point people to the new location. After that I figure people can be on their own.

New year, new starts, new resolutions has me pondering various things about being an adult and getting things done. But I shall put that behind a cut tag, in case you don't want to join in on the rambling and the navel-gazing. Your loss, though, because it's entirely possible there's cookies behind here. )
