I am so, so tired of the political ads. I really am. I realize I've ranted about that before but really my life isn't complete until I make others suffer along with me. And so? I annoy you by repeating myself. Now? I'm not touching you, ooooo, not touching you...

Ahem.

I have nothing to say about Heroes and S60 that others haven't already said before me. I will say that I love Niki and Claire and I don't care who knows it. If I start talking in depth about S60 I'll get off on a rant and, well, see above re: others have been there and better. But I will say tiny moment of amusement )

Tonight? Stitch n Bitch. As it's just me and another girl we're having it at her apartment. She lives across the street from me so this works out well. Though it does raise the question: Do I ask her if she's into VM so I've got someone to watch the premiere with? Or do I avoid the topic entirely, thus guaranteeing that I'll be able to watch the first ep with no interruptions? Hmmm.

Yesterday I got attacked by a burst of productivity and did a pretty good housecleaning. Not that my place is a sty normally, just that I went above and beyond. The difference between vacuuming and vacuuming under the couches too. (Not that I did that, but you get the idea.)

I also did knitting. SnB is tomorrow and I hope to make it since I missed the last two weeks.

For those who knit: how dumb would it be for me to start my own afghan project using leftover yarn from projects? I thought that might be a fun way to have a keepsake from each project, plus be a way to use up the yarn. But I didn't know if that would be dumb if all the yarns are of different thicknesses and types. Any thoughts? (Assuming I'd even get around to putting them all together anyway... and how would you put them all together if they were different thicknesses?)

Tonight is Heroes and S60. I've seen the pilot for Heroes already but after a typical Monday at work I'm looking forward to getting comfy on my couch, watching TV, and then going the heck to bed.

Nifty!

Okay, this? Is just neat. I like the concept of getting the different squares from different people, plus you gotta love something that provides an excuse for projects that are quick, easy, and use up spare bits of yarn you might have.

Leaving work early is of the good. Especially when you're fighting off a cold, as I currently am. Between that, this weekend, and med side effects my asleep to wakefulness ratio is getting decidedly tilted. On the other hand it makes my cats very happy to snuggle up next to me and give me purr therapy as I nap on the couch, and who am I to deny them that bliss?

I'm going to do my best to relax and recharge while the boss is away. I've got some doctor visits lined up, plus I do have to go into the office to get work done, but beyond that I can really try to give myself a break.

My desire? Lots of knitting.

My guess of what will actually happen? Yet more napping.

Though I can report with confidence that I absolutely did not buy two skein's worth of Noro Silk Garden at the LYS today.

Ahem.
thebratqueen: Captain Marvel (fucking wonderment)
So Ernesto blew into town on Saturday and ripped the town apart. The winds got so bad that at least once or twice an hour you'd hear a loud BANG! of something huge and dangerous falling to the ground.

Sometime on Saturday afternoon there was a loud CRACK like a gun being fired right in your ear. It was another tree that had fallen behind my co-op complex, taking electric wires with it and starting a fire to boot. Luckily the fire was quickly taken care of, but power was out from Saturday afternoon until about 3:30am this morning.

Saturday night felt like trying to sleep in a war zone what with all the crashing trees, rushing winds, and near-constat sound of sirens as ambulences and firefighters did their thing. Remember the first tree I talked about? It made the front page of the paper the damage was so bad.

Sunday at least was calmer, albeit a calm with sounds of chainsaws all day long. I got out of the house, did some book shopping, napped a good chunk of the day away (finally, a plus side to that zombie side-effect from my meds!) and when I wasn't napping I was knitting. [livejournal.com profile] mpoetess will be happy to know I'm in the home stretch of finishing her scarf.

Today I'll need to do tons of stuff to catch up - there's laundry and housecleaning and throwing out pretty much everything in my fridge and freezer (which fortunately had stuff in it that was getting close to the "eat it or toss it" stage anyway). If I have energy enough I'll go shopping for supplies but we'll see.

I also have some pictures of the fallen trees that I may upload later.

In the meanwhile? *OMG CLINGS* Never leave me again!!!

It's getting cooler here in the land of Siam. I approve, though this speaks poorly for the odds of my tomatoes reaching their tomato destiny. Which isn't surprising considering how late I planted them.

Still, cool! I love fall, and cool weather, and wearing snuggly clothes and cooking stick to your ribs kinds of meals. Granted this assumes having energy enough to cook, but with my crockpot I'm slowly creeping back to that.

(Speaking of energy to do stuff, [livejournal.com profile] rinue did you get the thing I emailed you?)

This weekend, however, while it can be cool it cannot rain. Because I have tickets for the US Open on Saturday night for good seats that I did not have to pay for and I want to be able to sit there with a perfect view of hot female tennis players wriggling their asses as though they were doing it for my personal benefit and I am not going to be thwarted from that by something as silly as RAIN!

So there.

In other news I still want a dog, my co-op still doesn't allow them, and it is very dangerous to put the KnitPicks catalogue into my hands when I already have four knitting projects that I still need to do.
thebratqueen: Captain Marvel (Michael with puppy)
Stitch n Bitch went off last night. We were missing one person but otherwise it was a nice couple of hours sitting and knitting and people watching. I made significant progress on my hat, and we tried coming up with a diagnosis for the guy at the next table who at first we thought was talking to himself, then we realized that he was talking to the taped up, cardboard... thing he kept carrying with him. Oddly? For all the noise he was making? I never noticed when he left.

Found out yesterday that I have free reign to try to prettify as much of the area around my back porch as I like. This still does not answer the question of whether I shall have the time and/or energy, but at least it's an option.

Hey, I should plant a dogwood! 'cause I can't have a puppy, see, and...

Shut up. My mom thinks I'm funny.

New Project Runway tonight! Whee!
thebratqueen: Captain Marvel (Joanie w/ tea)
Waking up to find myself not quite zombie-like today, I set out to get out of the house and do some errands. First up? Fixing that patch of dirt. I headed over to the local nursery, where as you can imagine the flower pickings were slim but on the upside they were also 40% off. This late in the season all I cared about was color, so I picked things based on getting the most variety of color in there, plus things that were pretty spread out already in the hopes that they'd cover more of the dirt.

Happily the dirt itself wasn't too hard to dig into, and it was but the work of moments to get the plants planted and watered and fertilized. In spite of my lifelong difficulty with estimating things, I actually managed to get the right amount of plants for just this situation.

While I was there I surveyed the land - all mere feet of it - and started to make plans for later. There's a brick border that could use some adjusting. The former owner of my apt. left bricks in our storage unit, which makes me wonder if they were the first to take care of this spot and my neighbor took over when they moved out. Either way the bricks currently there are loose enough that fixing the border should be easy. I'll do that come fall when I plant some bulbs for spring. As I rather enjoy the whole process, or at least the idea of it, I may ask if I can claim some more of the space near my porch for my own and have some fun with it. I like the aspect of what basically amounts to weetiny gardening. Especially if I have time to plan and prepare.

After that I treated myself to a pedicure, then it was laundry during which I napped on the couch. I awoke to find Mac curled up on me like a furry discus. He's rather determined to make sure I get my daily dose of purr therapy. It's part of the healing process, donchaknow.

Then it was dinner, which had the benefit of being easy enough to prepare I could've done it even if I was zombified. The tomatoes I got from the farmer's market were, ZOMG, so good. And luckily there's plenty of leftovers!

Shower and knitting in the evening, and now here I am, relaxing like a good girl.

Ahhhh

So far it is a pleasant day here in the land of Siam. My plans are to be a good girl and not overdo it. (Esp since today is the first day of the new meds, and God alone knows what, if any, side effects will hit me once they kick in.) Of course not overdoing it means I am not going out to buy the size 6 DPNs I need which is making my OCD nature twitchy OMG!!!

But I do have other knitting projects so I just have to thwap myself and start one of those.

I woke today to find myself with random patches of sunburn from the various places that I had no idea were exposed to the sun in the first place (like where the shoulders of my dress stopped and my hair didn't cover). Fortunately they don't hurt much so it's mostly just an amusing scavenger hunt on my own body to see where the patterns are.

*shares proper tea with all of you*

More on me

Stitch n Bitch actually went off yesterday. Color me shocked, SHOCKED I tell you.

It was a weetiny group, but the girls were nice. We're going to try to do something every Tuesday. I got some more work done on my hat, which I shall eventually blog about over in the craft journal.

(Get me using blog as a verb, oooooooooo)

Also voted yesterday. You're welcome. BTW, can somebody tell Joe to stop calling the attack on his website "Roveian tactics"? Because Roveian tactics would be taking down the website yourself and accusing your opponant of being the one to do it, NOT THAT I MADE ANY ASSUMPTIONS AS SOON AS I SAW THE NEWS STORY, JOE, OH NO.

BTW, y'all should head on over to Stoney's LJ to find out about the homophobic gardening company. Because everybody knows only straight people buy flowers.
thebratqueen: Captain Marvel (tea dammit)
I want to be at home quietly knitting and watching DVDs.

As nearly always, I am instead at work, dealing with stupid people.

There is no justice.

On the upside, after work I get to go vote and hopefully knock some stupid people out of the election. Then I get to go to a brand-spanking new stitch n bitch, which shall hopefully not crash and die as its predecessors have.

Also for lunch I shall be having pizza. Because on some days it really is medicinal.

After owning my food processor for who knows how many years, I just noticed today that above the buttons to operate it it says "CAUTION: Read instructions before using."

I get how this is good advice in general, but I can't help but wonder if some literal minded soul actually reads the instruction manual each and every time before pushing the on button.

Things here are pretty much neutral. I'm trying to do my best and remind myself that I can't do everything. I'm putting a lot of knitting projects on my lap because those give me the satisfaction of feeling like I'm doing something without being as strenuous to my system as, say, cleaning out my storage closet.

In a happy bit of serendipity, my belly dance classes have been called off for this month. Not that I don't love them, and I can exercise if I'm feeling up to it, but given the month ahead I'm actually kind of relieved to have the option taken away from me. Keeps me from pushing myself to go if I shouldn't, or feeling guilty for not going if I don't. Hopefully once September rolls around things will be better.

I've recently become addicted to Project Runway. I heard about the ep with the dogs and figured it would make for cute, mindless TV watching while I knit. Not only was it that, but now I want to see the first two seasons too. You've no idea how tempted I am to get the DVDs.

Now to try to spend the rest of today being a good girl and finding a right balance of taking it easy and doing things I want to do.

*twitch*

Power went out to all of downtown where I live. This means while I have power, starting one block away from me they do not.

One town over just lost power due to the storm overhead.

Storm's coming this way.

Should be a fun night.

*clings to AC*

Am at work now. Do not and will not have computer on tonight due to all the electricity issues (They're asking us to conserve.) Ironically for the heat, I'm getting a lot of knitting done.

Tomorrow I've got a doctor's appointment. Assuming he hasn't lost power by then.

Hopefully I'll see y'all when I wake up tomorrow.

So far my Blackberry is working fine though, for any who want to txt me. =)

thebratqueen: Captain Marvel (whatcha doing?)
Hi. I'm told I sort of vanished and I didn't mean to. Most of my free time this week has been taken up with ZOMGDRAMA about the performance. I'm feeling very Saffy and "I mean, for God's sake, 500,000 were mobilized in the Gulf and a war fought and won in less time without everyone included having a nervous breakdown and being sent flowers!" about it all. Though it's ironic now that that's a reference that doesn't so much work given the current Gulf war.

Finished my ribbed scarf and will post about it on the craft blog at some point. Have a hat and a thing to make still on my non-BGAL stuff, and I've also got my BGAL project to work on. It's not TV knitting, though, hence the hat and the thing.

Next week I'll have family in town and if you think the performance on Saturday has been causing ZOMGDRAMA uh... yeah. Family. 'nuff said.

We've been getting the pouring rain here which personally I have loved even if my head has not. It does make me wonder if we're going to get rained on Saturday, which would be funny in its way.

And... yeah. That's all I've got. Hi!
thebratqueen: Captain Marvel (knit bunny)
Here's what I've got for my day:

1) Jambalaya in the crock pot
2) Knitting to work on
3) Elizabeth on the Tivo
4) Living Dolls on the Tivo
5) A weetiny vampire

I could not be more content if I tried.

Also! In more productive news I have officially poked and prodded the BGAL blog to the point of being content enough with it to start making it public. So if you're interested in joining the Blue and Gold Along head on over here. That's where you can find all the info you need like how to sign in, what to do first, and just WTF is a blue and gold along anyway (just in case you missed a mention of it earlier).

For right now let's just focus on getting everybody set up with accounts and posting access. After which we can work on getting BGAL itself started.

Whee!

Now to go catch up on my flist, nap, watch Tivo, and knit. Possibly all at the same time. I'm just that good.
thebratqueen: Captain Marvel (the Dude)
Turns out the rain we got this weekend was record-breaking. In one weekend we got all the rain that we're supposed to get for the entire month of April. It was in this weather that I said to myself, Self, let's go splashing through ponds to get your laundry done!

Fortitude. I'm telling you, the word is fortitude.

Tonight I don't care what anybody says. I am parking my ass on the couch. I'm eating Mexican. I'm watching Tivo. And I'm knitting. I may never stop. I may call in sick to work tomorrow, so dire is my couch-Mexican-Tivo-knit need.

Speaking of catching up on stuff, I've got a question for anyone who's seen all of Deadwood s1. Cut in case this is a spoiler. It's just an s1 question though )

Home! Yes!

Apr. 22nd, 2006 06:24 pm
thebratqueen: Captain Marvel (tea)
Am home. Am in comfy clothes. Am pondering if I have enough brainpower to start a knitting project or if I'll focus on - um - the thing. That those who know, know, and those who don't don't need to know.

It's like I'm a spy, but way geekier.

Ah, rain

Apr. 22nd, 2006 10:46 am
thebratqueen: Captain Marvel (Seasonal)
It's raining out. Thus making it a perfect day for staying home on the couch with a proper cuppa, some DVDs, and knitting.

Naturally I'm actually at work, but that doesn't really change the perfectness of the day for staying home.

This morning I got an idea for a knitted project for BGAL that might possibly be nuts or the Best. Thing. EVER. It'd involve a bit of design on my part, which again does not tip the scale in best thing vs. nuts debate.

...

Can I go home now?
thebratqueen: Captain Marvel (Remember what I am)
So after yet another day of the dizzys and the urpys I decided the shimmys would not be happening. Skipped dance class so I could stay home like a staying home thing. The upside is I'm done with this month's round of meds, so hopefully in the next couple of weeks I'll have an uptick as the side effects subside.

Which would be nice because I'm starting to miss food. The weather's getting warmer and veggies are coming back in season. I want big salads! I want raw stuff! I want color! I want to look at a plate full of yummy food with layers and spices and go yum! and not ick! I want to do more cooking, darn it!

Ah well. At least I have tomorrow off. Working Saturday, but that's the price you pay.

I put together a test blog for the blue and gold along. Still ironing out the kinks, so won't give out the URL until it's ready. I hope this one works though because it's pretty (yes, I'm shallow).

Tonight will be resting, catching up on Tivo, updating the craft blog, and possibly knitting.
thebratqueen: Captain Marvel (Ooh! Me!)
So, you know, it's not enough for me to think about joining a knitalong. Ohhhhhhhh no. I gotta think about starting one.

*headdesk*

So, ahem. If any of you crafty folks (knit, crochet, whatever) might be interested in a blue and gold (FH folks - yes that) along, could you check in here and lemme know?

Or tell me horror stories about running KALs to talk me out of this?

ETA for those who don't know: A knitalong is basically a group of online folks who are all working on the same type of project at the same time, and posting about their progress to a blog. So it's sort of like an online stitch n bitch, only with a theme. Very often it's people all working on a single pattern (so they can answer each other's questions and offer moral support) othertimes it's folks using the KAL for inspiration on what to make.

Here's a listing of other knitalongs going on right now to give you an idea.

So a blue and gold KAL would be one where people could knit (or crochet or whatever) projects that involve the colors blue and gold in some way.
