You know what's a great feeling? When you wake up and look at the clock and go "OMG! I am so totally late for work!" and then, seconds later, go "Wait, I don't have work today!" and then you roll over and go back to sleep. That is a great feeling.

My weekend so far is rainy, which I don't mind, except that I want to put my Xmas decorations away so hopefully it won't be so wet outside that carting cardboard boxes back and forth from my apt to my storage unit won't be an exercise in futility. In an hour I'll be going to the eye doctor to have her check on my new contact prescription (which I've discovered I'm not fond of, as it makes reading very difficult) and then it's back home to take the decorations down and hopefully get some writing done.

The current list of fannish things to do is overfull, at the moment. I am now finding my original hope of trying to knock out a charity fic a day to have been very quaint and amusing on my part. Luckily it would seem that nobody else is trying to keep to that kind of schedule, plus those who donated have been very kind and patient, so this is me giving them a public thank you for that. FWIW I can promise that if I'm not working on a charity fic, it's because I'm caught up in [livejournal.com profile] ats_nolimits stuff, which is currently working at a speed factor of 11 as we try to get things ready and finalized to pick up again after our winter break (look for announcements about the upcoming schedule to be posted hopefully at the end of this weekend). I tell ya, if there's this much work when all we've got is writers and editors to wrangle, I do not envy people who do actual shows with actors, directors, costumes that need to be made, sets designed, locations scouted, etc.

In more personal and non-fannish news, depending on the schedule I may be having a very stressful meeting tomorrow ([livejournal.com profile] stakebait knows what I'm talking about. It'd be about that nervous breakdown inducing thing I got your opinion on when we were chatting on the phone). Which I mention here just in case stress and/or worry and/or nerves about that make me head for the hills, or at least go hide under my bed.

Oh, and, Wolf? Turns out I can't do 24 with you tomorrow because a family thing that was originally scheduled for tonight got moved to tomorrow, because my Older Brother is a big, fat, poopy-head. So we'll just have to confab in email later.

Now to get ready for the eye doctor! Excitement iz me!

Back from the eye doc, where yes, in fact, the contacts were way too strong. Turns out the guy at the front desk gave me the wrong instructions and the wrong prescription, so for a week I was wearing something twice as strong as I actually needed. I'm now in the correct prescription now and all I can say is ahhhhh. Also now I can clearly see [livejournal.com profile] swmbo having sex with racoons, so I might just take the contacts out entirely and perhaps replace them with bleach.

Also had a sneak preview of the big, stress inducing meeting as a conversation about "Hey, should we have that meeting tomorrow?" turned into an informal discussion of the meeting topics today. I managed not to throw up or spontaneously burst into flames, so hopefully this is a good sign. I keep my fingers crossed, however, and we'll know tomorrow night if I survived it.

To reassure people who apparently got confused by my earlier flist swap posts, no, I am not reading flocked posts that I am not supposed to read. My amusement with flocked posts was discovering that there were people out there who I was unaware of, but who knew me and were kind enough to include me in their filters. So this is in no way like finding out a secret, inasmuch as these people don't mind me reading said posts since they specifically included me in the filter, but it feels that way to me because I had no idea the posts were out there in the first place. As I said before, I am easily amused even if the thrill is only in my imagination.

On the other hand, I can't tell if I should be amused or insulted that people thought I would be so rude as to read posts that I wasn't supposed to, and then would be stupid enough to announce said fact on my own journal in an unlocked post for all to see. Apparently nobody considers me to be a great criminal mastermind. Though on the other hand that's fine, because when I steal your wallets you'll obviously suspect [livejournal.com profile] mpoetess of doing it, since we all know she is not the Good One.

Now, I take Christmas decorations down.

Ahem. What I learned by swapping flists with [livejournal.com profile] elementalv, by TBQ.

  1. It's definitely interesting to do a swap with someone who has almost no friends in common with you. You're in an entirely new world of fandom and communication. Though it does make me wonder why she's got me there. ;)

  2. [livejournal.com profile] little_details and [livejournal.com profile] food_porn can really spam a flist if you don't have a couple hundred friends or so breaking those posts up a bit. (And I almost typed [livejournal.com profile] food_porn as [livejournal.com profile] fod_porn, but I think we all know the correct spelling of that is [livejournal.com profile] vinnie_k ;) )

  3. It is possible to find out who is your famous blogger twin. (Mine is Wil Wheaton)

  4. A sleepover sounds like a lot of fun right now. (Hell, I'd be tempted to do a virtual one over IRC or something)

  5. Dom! In the shower! With a picture cropped so you can't confirm or deny his religion!

  6. I share a resolution with somebody, though I've been meaning to do that for a while now.

  7. There is a food establishment that serves something Byrne might enjoy (3rd paragraph)

  8. The FedEx logo has an arrow in it! Why does no one ever tell me these things? (Of course now I'll be seeing that damn arrow everywhere.)

  9. Some Mary Sues are, in fact, starfish.

  10. A Buffy/Giles fan over in Iraq needs recs. Also, apparently Buffy/Giles fans are called BeeGees. That's actually kind of cute. (And much, much better than Wangel, but then again so is everything).

  11. You can zoom through a flist really fast when it's only a fraction of the size of yours. 8)

And there we are! I must say fun was had by yours truly. It was nice to get a forced fresh perspective on what people are writing and talking about. We can get so used to trimming our own flists to suit our interests and comfort level that it can be very easy to get a little too insular and lose sight of the rest of the LJ community. Which is sad, since one of the strengths of LJ is being able to see more of people than simply the one thing that introduced the two of you. Lists and boards have to be so on-topic so you'll never know who amongst your fellow fen shares your hobbies, or has an interesting perspective on current events, or what have you. Here we get to know each other a little better (for good and ill), but I think it's nice to break out of our comfort zone and meet new people just for the heck of it.

Not sure what else I'm doing with the rest of my night. My brain's a bit burned out by all the errands and the pre-meeting of today. Don't think I'll be getting any writing done, unfortunately, but hopefully tomorrow I can get at least one charity fic done.

Also - new icon, in honor of the holidays. Anybody made their king cake yet? =)
