Flist swap part deux
Jan. 8th, 2005 09:17 pmAhem. What I learned by swapping flists with
elementalv, by TBQ.
And there we are! I must say fun was had by yours truly. It was nice to get a forced fresh perspective on what people are writing and talking about. We can get so used to trimming our own flists to suit our interests and comfort level that it can be very easy to get a little too insular and lose sight of the rest of the LJ community. Which is sad, since one of the strengths of LJ is being able to see more of people than simply the one thing that introduced the two of you. Lists and boards have to be so on-topic so you'll never know who amongst your fellow fen shares your hobbies, or has an interesting perspective on current events, or what have you. Here we get to know each other a little better (for good and ill), but I think it's nice to break out of our comfort zone and meet new people just for the heck of it.
Not sure what else I'm doing with the rest of my night. My brain's a bit burned out by all the errands and the pre-meeting of today. Don't think I'll be getting any writing done, unfortunately, but hopefully tomorrow I can get at least one charity fic done.
Also - new icon, in honor of the holidays. Anybody made their king cake yet? =)
- It's definitely interesting to do a swap with someone who has almost no friends in common with you. You're in an entirely new world of fandom and communication. Though it does make me wonder why she's got me there. ;)
-
little_details and
food_porn can really spam a flist if you don't have a couple hundred friends or so breaking those posts up a bit. (And I almost typed
food_porn as
fod_porn, but I think we all know the correct spelling of that is
vinnie_k ;) ) - It is possible to find out who is your famous blogger twin. (Mine is Wil Wheaton)
- A sleepover sounds like a lot of fun right now. (Hell, I'd be tempted to do a virtual one over IRC or something)
- Dom! In the shower! With a picture cropped so you can't confirm or deny his religion!
- I share a resolution with somebody, though I've been meaning to do that for a while now.
- There is a food establishment that serves something Byrne might enjoy (3rd paragraph)
- The FedEx logo has an arrow in it! Why does no one ever tell me these things? (Of course now I'll be seeing that damn arrow everywhere.)
- Some Mary Sues are, in fact, starfish.
- A Buffy/Giles fan over in Iraq needs recs. Also, apparently Buffy/Giles fans are called BeeGees. That's actually kind of cute. (And much, much better than Wangel, but then again so is everything).
- You can zoom through a flist really fast when it's only a fraction of the size of yours. 8)
