I have a surprising amount of scheduled social outings this month. Which, let us be frank, typically means any but seriously, lots! I have no idea how this happened!

Possibly as a way of restoring the natural order of things, today there was - still is - a big snowstorm. It's scheduled to end tomorrow morning, but it may impact my ability to go over to someone's house for tea tomorrow afternoon. But I am optimistic, so I made currant scones anyway. I figure worst case scenario is that I bring them into work on Monday. Plus baking on snowy days is fun :D

After that I worked on making cards. I'm still trying to figure out my style, but I'm pleased with what I ended up with. I'll take pictures when I have better light.

After that I worked on my Spanish. And after that I worked on a scarf. Sadly the yarn in question is pure muppet fur and it sheds like a mofo. It's also just slipipery enough that it's literally a pain for me to handle. This project may end up getting frogged and forgotten.

I am now sitting and relaxing. I have not yet gotten tired of having a wireless printer. The cats still refuse to fetch the papers for me, but I remain hopeful. Or deluded. It's a fine line.

Ah, summer

It was warm here in the land of Siam. Now that I'm drying laundry outside, I look at hot days a bit differently. Before it was a sort of "Crap, hot" reaction. Now it's "Crap, hot. Well at least I can make the heat my bitch." I hung up sheets and towels and such before leaving for lunch (Japanese) followed by antiquing (beautiful and sadly expensive) and by the time I got back they were bone dry. That's pretty good service.

I also used my clothespin bag. It worked perfectly! It was just the right height to reach into as I was hanging things up and it didn't fall or anything like that while I used it. Woohoo!

In other news my Spanish lessons continue nicely. I am by no means fluent but I'm starting to recognize some things when I see them in the wild, as it were. To help encourage me I bought a copy of Freakanomics in Spanish. I imagine this is going to be extremely slow reading, but I'm proud to say I was at least able to get my way through the blurb on the back without having to hit a Spanish/English dictionary.

One of many reasons why my job is awesome? Three words: Work. From. Home.

I woke up today with my head hurting but not full-on migraine. If it was a normal work day I would've probably gone in. However damn near the entire office, my dept included, is away at a conference. I realized it was stupid to make myself worse by going out in sunlight and driving and spending the day under bad lighting and bleh. So I emailed the boss to ask if I could work from home so that I could close my eyes in cold darkness as needed and he said yes.

\o/ New job for the win! (Also remote log-in for the win!)

In other news, watching commercials in Spanish is a great way to go "Hey! I actually know what they're saying!" though Olive Garden commercials in Spanish are just disturbing. Mind you Olive Garden commercials in English aren't much better...

And I have no idea where the 3-way Petrellicest vaguely Apacolyptic crack bunny came from, but it scares me.

I didn't do much for April Fool's Day today. Just pranked my boss by turning his screen upside down (control-alt-up/down arrow). When all was said and done he wanted to know how I did it. I told him he was hilarious. And that he should keep this in mind when deciding how much of a raise I should get ;)

But work is good, if busy. And dance is going well. I'm vaguely getting the hang of zills!

I'm also continuing with my Spanish. I've got tons of folks to practice with now, especially at dance class. Granted that what Spanish I know is more condusive to conversations with people you don't know. On the upside so far I've been happy that I've learned French first, as French is comparatively more fussy. (SHOCKER) (I say that avec l'amour)

And that's about it from my end. Just checking in. Hi!

Hola! ¿Cómo estás? Estoy muy bien, gracias.

As you can see, I'm coming along with my Spanish lessons. It's just little bit by little bit, but my hope is that over time it will add up. I don't know that I'll ever be fluent but hopefully I'll get enough under my belt to muddle through when talking with Spanish speakers. Since many of you appreciated the link to Livemocha I'll add in Coffee Break Spanish which has free podcasts of Spanish lessons. They're about 15 minutes long, which makes them perfect for listening to on my way to and from work. I've heard three lessons so far. I need to listen to them a few times because there's always something I forget, but they say you'll need to do that anyway. So at least in this respect I am normal ;)

Thanks for those who offered their help with my work-related question. I still need to do the thing but the advice was very helpful. I shall be making use of it once I get started.

Hey, could I be more vague? Possibly.

Livemocha! Who's on it? Who wants to be on it with me?

I only just signed up. I'm hoping to learn Spanish and possibly German. Plus it never hurts to keep the French skills from getting rusty. =)
