Gardening (and money!)

First things first: 7 days left to sponsor me in my walk for the Bennet Cancer Center. Please? Pretty please? I'll look at you ever so cutely and adorably.
Second, I have land! Well sorta. The co-op I live in started a community garden, so I have a plot of my very own. I'm trying to limit myself to plants I've grown before with some success (tomatoes, herbs) while adding in some new ones just to see how it goes (cucumbers, onions). I figure this year will mostly be a learning experience and any food I get at the end of it will be a bonus.
So far I've put in good dirt, some wire fences to make it look pretty (and make sure I don't accidentally go into my neighbors' plots), and the seedlings. I still need to get cages or trellises or summat to help the tomatoes and cucumbers grow big and tall. (This is when folks who have more gardening experience and wisdom than I are encouraged to chip in on the topic of the best things to use for tomatoes and cucumbers being grown in a raised bed.)
That's the latest for now. I'm still catching up on everything from the week that I was away. In the meanwhile I relax here in my wonderful A/C and remind you that again there are only 7 days left to sponsor me.

Date: 2010-06-01 12:52 am (UTC)I don't actually garden. But another on my flist recommends using those hard plastic children's wading pools as a good way to simplify work and keep competing growths separate. If your interested, I can check my friends (it's either ebonypearl or elorie, so I'm sure I can find it) and point you to the relevant posts.
