Mar. 16th, 2002 01:22 amArgh! I volunteered to help out at the second part of my church's Welcoming Congregation and only just realized today that it might be taking place the same weekend as Connexions. Irony, table for one please.
In light of Yahoogroups being down I'm going to hold off on the sequel to "The Smallest Detail" until next week at least. I might try writing it tomorrow, though, we'll see. I've got it all in my head, I just need to scribble.
Tried to track down Angel spoilers. They're still locked up tighter than Lady Hamilton's virtue. Doesn't ME know that we need those spoilers this year? If there's going to be more craptacular Angel/Cordy shit going on you have got to soften that blow for me. I can't go into another episode like Waiting in the Wings or that piece of shit that David G gave us - what was it? Offspring? - without fair warning.
I found one spoiler post that looked seriously promising - a detailed account of the rest of the season, with some believable plot twists and turns - but then realized halfway through reading it that it was just someone's guess as to how the season would end. Dude - just write the fucking fanfic then. Grr. Argh.
Something today got me thinking about Xander and "Normal Again". I think it was yet another discussion of "TBQ doesn't grok the conclusions being made in Buffy this season." First we have me sitting here going "But there isn't a comparison between Buffy/Spike and Willow/magic addiction!" and now we've got the aftermath of Xander's wedding.
I liked that Xander called off the wedding. I thought that was great writing on the part of the show. Finally we see an admission that he raced into the wedding far too soon and he just wasn't ready for it. This is a good thing. But how do his friends react? By treating it as though it was the immature and bad decision. Fwah-huh?
And while I'm on the topic, what's with the Scooby girls suddenly being all sympathetic and supportive of Anya? Esp. Anya over Xander?
It's just weird. This is the sort of stuff that frustrates me when I don't know the writer well enough. Over on Angel I know not to take any Mere Smith episode seriously (with the exception of the very well done "Loyalty") and to pay close attention to the nuances of Tim's work. On Buffy I'm lost - unless Joss himself is writing. It's like all the writers have their own views of everything and therefore each episode brings us something new.
Okay, yeah, arguably on Angel we get the same thing, but again at least there we can trust that if it's a Tim or - god help me - David G penned episode it's meant to have more canonical weight than, again, Mere Smith's little brain farts. Who am I supposed to trust on Buffy besides Joss? Marti Noxon? Oh I don't think so.
Ah well. More food for the Connexions panels.
