Sick, debates, sewing, other
Sep. 30th, 2004 10:53 amI'm officially tired of being tired. Granted, I feel a little better now than I did a few hours ago, but that was thanks to a quick catnap. That I took at my desk. At work. Ahem. (In my defense, it wasn't on purpose. Though I'm not sure if that makes it better or worse.)
I want to be over this! I want real food and energy and the ability to go out and buy the boots I need to buy to go with the skirt I probably shouldn't have bought because I didn't have boots to go with it! And I want to cook, and bake, and make an apple pie!
Wah! [/self-pity]
I'm currently planning on watching the debate tonight. I'm sure this will only lead to pain and agony, but on the plus side The Daily Show is doing live post-debate coverage, so it'd be nice to have some context. Plus I'm curious to see how Bush and Kerry handle themselves, considering that they're both being touted as good debaters, yet neither one of them has ever struck me as being capable of stringing a coherent sentence together without a teleprompter present and ideally somebody else saying the words for them. (Insert your own Karl Rove joke right about here).
Thanks to everybody who offered advice on sewing machines. I've been doing research online and am in turns excited about trying to learn this and absolutely terrified and possessed of the urge to run screaming and hide behind my couch. We'll see which urge wins out in the end. I hope it's the first one, because it would be neat to know how to make clothing.
I also keep debating (huh, gues it's a theme for today) the idea of maybe making a community where people encourage each other to learn new stuff. Like I've made it a personal goal to try to learn a new skill or two each year for a while now, and I wonder if that might be a goal other people would be interested in. I guess it would be a place to talk, and help people get past the constant stage of "Oh yeah, one day I should really try to do _____" and instead get them to a point of actually trying it.
But I have no idea if people would be interested in that, or even how it would work. It's more like a random idea flitting about my head.
Oh! And speaking of flitting, I forgot to mention that yesterday morning somebody outside my bedroom window had one of those Nextel walkie-talkies, so they kept making that echoing beep sound, and then a bird in one of the trees tried to talk back to it by chirping a similar noise. It wasn't a mocking bird, so it didn't get close, but I thought it was neat that the bird was trying in the first place. Nature can be cool sometimes. =)
