I knew it couldn't be good for you
Apr. 14th, 2003 12:21 pmI'm starting to suspect that my inability to get deep sleep (a task I failed at both last night, the night before, and during that quick nap that led me down the path to hellacious headache) might be due to me sleeping with all my bedroom windows open for the first time in months, which means I'm drowning in fresh air and the room's a bit lighter than normal.
I've slept with my windows open before with no problems, I just need to get used to it again.
In the meanwhile I'm having plenty of light sleep with lucid dreams. Last night I dreamt the Angel season finale.
It started with Spike tooling along an LA street on a motorcycle. Action packed sequence, driving soundtrack, him catching up to a bus or truck or something and climbing off the bike and onto it for whatever reason. Actually I knew the reason, the reason was to do an action scene that made Spike look cool.
Somehow during this he meets up with Angel. Angel already knows the situation - soul, gone from Sunnydale, restless and looking for a new home, and just tells Spike to follow him.
Spike doesn't have anything better to do so he says okay.
They show up at a house in the hills. Very cheesy looking. Decorating scheme hasn't changed since the 1970s. For some god-unknown reason there's a hot tub in the livingroom. Spike's looking at Angel like he's daft and Angel just says trust me.
Then Spike's memories start to click. The room flashes back and forth between what it is and what it used to be, and what it used to be was a place where Spike was badly damaged in a manner not unlike the Initiative, except it's not them.
Spike realizes that Angel's brought him here so he can have his revenge. It's Angel's gift to Spike. A way of saying welcome back to the family.
Spike gets his revenge, and the guy he's getting it with is the same actor who played Jayne on Firefly, which was either my subconscious's attempt to accurately guess the casting and/or its attempt to point out Joss's little fetishes. Possibly both.
Spike gets his revenge by playing mind games with the guy. There's no physical contact and I can't remember what the games entailed, but Spike's content with it once it's all said and done. Angel and Spike head back to the Hyperion.
All of this has taken us up to the 50 min past the hour mark, and our last scene is in the lobby of the hotel. The gang is gathered around, Angel's sitting on the ottoman looking guilty, Spike, looking more like William up to and including the hair, is sitting on a chair looking sheepish, and Wes, with glasses again, is telling Spike that if he thinks that he can waltz in there and play havoc with Angel's emotions and safety he's got another think coming as Wesley will personally set him on fire if he dares to harm the vampire Wes cares most about.
The dream ends with me turning to my friends (I think
miss_edith and
buffybot) and saying "Well... THAT was certainly a big fat shout-out to the slash fans."
I'm amused that even in my dreams I recognize the need for Hollywood conventions (like the action sequence) and that I recognize that really you could do entire episodes of nothing but Angel, Spike and Wes and really not harm the quality of the show at all.
In other news, puff pancakes can, in fact, sit in the fridge for a day, be nuked for about a minute, sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar and still come out tasty. This is not going to up my chances of making them every weekend, but it's good to know I won't be wasting food the next time I get a hankering.
