Waffles! Fall! Ewan! Productivity!
Nov. 7th, 2004 02:08 pmMade my first waffles of the season. This turned out to be a little weird as usually I make waffles on snowy days (as of course you all know, since you slavishly memorize everything I write down here) and today turned out to be neither snowy (which is to be expected) nor cloudy, nor even the slightest bit cold. Instead we have a sunny, warm, and beautiful day.
I made the waffles anyway and they turned out fabulous. I used Alton Brown's recipe in his new book which I finally was able to buy at the local Barnes & Noble. (I figured if it was on the BN website, it'd be in the BN bookstore, and I was right). Quite yummy, and easy to throw together. Between Alton's book and Jamie's I predict a lot of good new recipes in my future.
In spite of the warmth, fall is definitely upon us. We had a good season for leaves this year, which makes me regret not trying to take some pictures of it. Still, not all the leaves are gone yet, and they've hung around much longer than they did last year, for all that they started to turn early. Last year it felt as though the leaves turned and then fell down within a week, two at most. This time we're getting some lingering.
I finally went outside and cleared out the now dead plants on my porch. It wasn't a good summer for them. It was too cold. I got some good use out of them (esp the basil, which is now in pesto form and stored in my freezer) but last year everything did more and lasted longer. Ah well. Such is the life of the urban farmer.
I still persist in wanting to try to at least get some rosemary growing inside of the house, but I never have time to swing by a nursery to pick some up.
I've been possessed by the strange urge to at some point in my life move to a house that's in the country enough that I can keep a couple of chickens for their eggs. I have no idea why. This is perhaps something to blame on hormones. Either that or I've been watching too much Pioneer Quest.
Speaking of reality shows, why didn't anybody tell me that Regency House Party was starting to air here in the US? Consider me tapping my foot and glaring at you all disapprovingly.
OTOH I've been able to watch Long Way Round thanks to my Tivo, and discovering that Ewan is a big ol' geek only recements my love for him.
Today's plans include finally finishing something for NL that's been on hold thanks to Black Tuesday (or would it be Wednesday, considering when it became official?) and various visitings.
lucifrix and I had a great dinner together last night, and today Older Brother and P-sis are up with the kids, so I'll be swinging by to hang with them later on.
Now then, who wants waffles?
