Xmas part the second-ish
Dec. 27th, 2002 09:36 pmWent shopping for
buffybot and
miss_edith today. Balanced this by paying bills tonight. Nothing like doing that to help ground you in financial reality. Of course not even bill paying is dissuading me from this RenFair style dress that I am totally drooling over. Which is ridiculous b/c the only place I could wear it would be RenFairs and I only go to one a year tops and I'm just fine going to that in my regular clothes to boot.
Sigh.
See it's times like this that I wish I knew how to sew b/c I wouldn't mind sewing a "I'll only wear it once" outfit for myself because I've got to imagine that it would be cheaper and if nothing else worthwhile for the fun activity. But since I don't, nor do I possess a sewing machine, and the brief foray I made into "Learn how to sew" texts was enough to terrify me right back into off the rack clothing, I don't see this in my immediate future.
Got Nickel and Dimed out of the library. Read the first two chapters at my parents' house. Very interesting so far. May post more when I'm done.
Also flipped through - damn. Can't remember the name. Simple Living or Living Simple or something like that. Some magazine that I vaguely remembered tried to tout itself for being frugal - as the title would imply - but which was nothing like it. My sis in law apparently likes it (it being her copy that was on the coffee table) but I assume only for the near pornographic pictures of food that are inside and not for any attempt by the magazine to meet its stated goal. I think the biggest snicker for me was the article about throwing a holiday party for family and/or friends and "renting" glassware for it. Which I guess is vaguely simple in a completely expensive and complicated way.
Played with the young hobbit. She was very cute. I got to hold her for a while and give her juice and then let her suck on my finger. No tiny snowmen though as it was too dark by the time I got there. Still, nice to snuggle with small ones.
Sigh.
