The results are in!
Aug. 12th, 2007 10:54 pmOkay, my IBARW poll has been up for over 24 hours, so now's as good a time as any to take a look at what we've found.
Note: Obviously this is an unscientific poll which does not reflect society or fandom or the internet as a whole. Likewise, nor do any of my comments indicate die-hard conclusions. The following is offered as no more than food for thought.
And, because I am a psych geek, we're going to break tihs down. First:

Aug. 11th, 2007 01:31 pmSo far the responses to the "What's your mental image?" poll I put up yesterday have been fascinating. There have been some results I wouldn't have expected, and there have been comments about points of view that I wouldn't have thought of.
If you haven't yet, please take the time to put in your responses. I'm curious to see if any of the trends change as we get more input. Since it hasn't even been up for a full day yet, I'll give it until tomorrow before writing down my thoughts and impressions.
Mega thanks to those who have replied so far, and who have answered honestly even if those answers weren't ones you were proud of.

What's your mental image?
Aug. 10th, 2007 11:53 pmWhen we know one another using this series of tubes it leaves a great deal of room for mental interpretation of who we think we're talking to.
So, in honor of IBARW, I thought I would ask: What's your mental image? Barring any concrete knowledge of who you're dealing with out here on the internet, what do you tend to assume?
For the purposes of the poll let's read "talking to" as meaning "On Livejournal, or places like it." In other words, places where the assumption is not obvious. (As opposed to, say, a message board about being pregnant, where one would have reason to assume most folks were women)
