Sunday and links
Mar. 22nd, 2009 05:40 pmIt's a lovely spring day here in the land of Siam. Nice enough that I hung my clothes out to dry. I hope to bring them in before sunset. (I started late, ergo the time question.)
In the meanwhile, some links.
For a while now I've been annoyed by Pixar's lack of female protagonists in its movies. So I was happy to find this post from last year which explains it perfectly.
Shakesville brings us a fabulous response to why girls side with Chris Brown over Rhianna. Quote: It doesn't do girls any fucking good if we just throw up our hands and say, "Well, of course boys excuse rape and violence against women," and take that as read, so we can move on and wonder what's wrong with the girls. Talk about victim-blaming."
Cleanse your mind from the horrors in the world with a kitten reading a book.
Those of you who bash your head against a wall whenever the question of "Why aren't there more [women/PoC/etc] represented in [tv/movies/SciFi/etc]?" comes up will be happy to know it happens in the realm of organizing too. Wait, not happy. Annoyed. Really really annoyed. SIGH. ("I guess they just don't like it!" OH SHUT UP. GOD.)
If you're planning on doing a kitchen garden this year (just like the White House, EEEEEE) this might be a good resource to help you figure out what to do.
Earth Hour 2009 is coming up. I missed it last year. I may try it this year.
In the meanwhile tonight is the second episode of Kings. This show is smart and layered and awesome and has Ian McShane, all of which would be perfect reasons to watch in their own right. Put them together and why the heck aren't you watching already? If you missed the first ep, you can see it for free on Hulu.
