Hi-Tech is making us all procrastinators. To the point where some are pushing for it to be a clinical diagnosis. I have to admit that I'm realizing I need to cut down on my own distractions, as they do easily creep up on you. I will also admit that when I read the sentence "[the expert] has devised a questionnaire to help diagnose the condition" I immediately filled it in with "...only no one's gotten around to filling it out." Soooooo going to hell.
I enjoy reading BBC news because it's a way to see events from another perspective. I also enjoy BBC news because their headlines very often make me do double takes. For instance this one about how "Some inmates are living and sleeping in toilets because of jail overcrowding." I actually had a moment of going "Damn, that really is crowded... or they're really short." before remembering that Brits define toilet slightly differently than us Yanks do.
Time magazine writes about purity balls. Feministing sums up some of my thoughts fairly well. You know, what especially bugs me is that you don't hear about the same thing for boys. Sure, not many of us think it's a great idea for 12 year old girls to have sex. It's also not a great idea for 12 year old boys to have sex either. Where's the dances for them, complete with keys that their moms hold until the wife comes along?

Finally, the Get Rich Slowly blog linked to this essay on the economics of a WWII POW camp. What happens when everyone has a fixed income (rations) and differing needs (e.g. smokers vs. non)? Barter, stand-ins for money, value going up and down with supply and demand - interesting stuff, and I'm not even a money geek.
