All done with HP Book 7!
Jul. 21st, 2007 05:04 pmJust finished reading DH. Putting all comments behind the cut so as not to spoil anyone.
LOVED it. Totally fucking LOVED it. Every chapter just felt right. I wasn't too fond of book 6 as I felt that it kind of rambled and went on way too long about things it didn't need to, but this was spot-fucking-ON. I loved the new stuff, loved the old stuff, and loved how it was a proper finale with little touches along the way to give a nod to all that had come before.
It was also like 5 in that I was turning each page eager to find out what was next and that I lost track of how many times I gasped or cheered aloud.
And cried. Oh GOD I cried. Poor Hedwig, who died after having unhappy weeks cooped up in her cage and not even understanding why. George being without his twin. Lupin and Tonks at the same fucking time. COLIN! HERE LIES DOBBY, A FREE ELF and god Dobby was annoying but I AM NOT MADE OF WOOD!!!
And everyone gathering together to fight at the end and it was Helm's fucking Deep all over again with the elves showing up to fight (I DO NOT CARE THAT IT'S NOT IN THE BOOKS IT STILL MAKES ME CRY EVERY TIME) and of COURSE Neville was going to be the one who killed Nagini and of COURSE it was with the sword and the House elves kicking ass and Percy showing up and joking and Molly going after Bellatrix...
SO MUCH LOVE. I'M STILL CRYING DAMN IT.
I also liked that it was acknowledged that Dumbledore fucked some things up, and was occasionally smoking the good crack when he came up with some of his plans, and I so fucking knew he had the agreement with Snape to kill him and I like that Harry named one of his kids after both Dumbledore and Severus and I like that Snape was ultimately on his own side because that feels so true to everything we've ever seen from the character.
And Harry going to die! And all of his dead loved ones showing up to keep him company!
My only regrets are that, unless I missed it through the tears, we didn't find out what everyone's jobs were at the end, and we didn't hear about how George was doing. We didn't have to find out these things, the epilogue that we got was good, especially for the important points (like how Harry remembered Snape, which is key). But as a glimpse into the future I wouldn't have hated knowing what they all turned into, besides married and with kids. And while overhearing Percy was nice and all, I really wanted to know how George was doing. A glimpse of him, a mention of him, something. I'd like to think that his sense of humor would've survived the loss of Fred - George the saint and "Holey? All the ear jokes in the world and you went with holey?" - but it would've been nice to see.
But these are minor quibbles in a world of awesome and I totally love it so.
