Ups and Downs of the work week thus far
Jul. 18th, 2007 11:34 pmUps:
1) Yesterday when I had to get a PowerPoint presentation ready for an afternoon meeting. Deadline was looming, IT needed to set up the conference room, and my boss and his boss were going back and forth over one single sentence. I added the sentence in, sent the presentation to IT, and gave fair warning that there might be a last-minute update. Thus when my boss came in at Oh My God We're Gonna Be Late o'clock and was all "Ineedyoutomakethesechanges!" I was able to reply that it was all taken care of and set up already. Because I'm AWESOME.
2) Today, boss is traveling. Absent minded professor thing meant that the hour was getting later and later and he hadn't left yet. Finally he was in the midst of a phone call that showed no time of ending anytime soon. I flipped over my notebook and wrote in big letters "COULDN'T YOU BE HAVING THIS CONVERSATION IN THE CAR?" To which he nodded, ended the call, and said "That's a good point, thank you."
I'll whip him into shape yet.
Downs:
1) Co-worker who cannot explain things for shit ("So do this and go here and then that." - NOT A PARAPHRASE), nor does he listen when I flat-out ask questions for clarification. Twice now he's "taught" me how to do projects and left me feeling like I have no frakking clue what I'm supposed to do. And I'm not the only one. At some point there's going to need to be a come to Jesus meeting about this, I just need to wait until the words "Bite me" aren't so readily at my lips. (Also I'm not sure if I should talk with him first, or my boss.)
2) NO ICE CREAM TODAY, WTF.
(I realize that's a minor problem in the scheme of things, but I ate a light lunch in anticipation of the afternoon snack. And you know how my body doesn't react well to not getting food when it needs to. Note to self: always have non-perishable snack handy, just in case.)
And now I off to bed.
