Details, as they are
Jun. 15th, 2007 08:51 pmLast night? Ice cream cake. Carvel. I celebrate in style, baby!
So yesterday after thinking that I'd missed out on finding out anything until today, boss-to-be calls me on my cell phone. Now the thing to know about this guy is that he is very laid-back in the voice department. Which drove me somewhat nuts during the interviews because I couldn't tell how he felt about anything I was saying. Think Ben Stein but not as grating on the ears.
So there I am, on the phone, and there he is with that voice and he's saying "I wanted to get in touch with you because I know you've invested a lot of time in this process and..." and naturally I am HAVING A HEART ATTACK because I'm thinking he's giving me the gentle lead-in to an apologetic brush-off.
But no! It was acceptance! Acceptance with a salary quote that made me very very happy! And thus I did a little dance and posted my screams of joy because actually doing so over the phone would've been slightly unprofessional.
Now I had slightly bad cell reception at the time so one of my fears was that I'd heard the salary quote wrong. Which still would've put it WAY above anything I would've hoped for (or taken, for that matter ;) ) but I like to fret and that is something that I fret about. The other is that, due to various paperwork issues, I wouldn't be able to start for three weeks to a month or more.
So when I woke up this morning and did not have a voice mail or email from the HR people as promised, I sent a polite note to boss-to-be saying that I would be happy to give that two weeks notice as soon as the official job offer paperwork came through.
Lo and behold, bing! PDF files in my email and a voice mail from HR and in theory a FedEx dropoff tomorrow. AWWWWW yeah. And? And! The PDF offer letter has the salary quote that was the bigger one! SQUEEEEE!!!! And the benefits are most spiffy! (I don't know the vacation/sick day policy yet, but maybe that'll be in the paperwork I get tomorrow. If not I'll ask.)
Tomorrow I am in fact working (my last Saturday of doing that, wheee!) but I won't give notice until Monday since I would like the offer letter physically in my hands before I do.
But assuming all goes well, I'll be at a new job on July 2! Yay!
