thebratqueen...you hear about straight, white men claiming to be the abused minority in this country, but you never really expect to meet any in the wild.
As a rule I normally try to pretend to be deaf to any conversations happening in the waiting room, but today I just couldn't.
Guy #1: So this friend of mine pushed his wife and the cops hauled him in for it. He got arrested and now he can't go back to his house!
Guy #2: Oh man. That's horrible. You know that's the kind of thing that could really ruin him and his reputation if that got out where he works. That's really hard for him to have to deal with.
Me: Alternatively, he could've not pushed his wife at any time and thus avoided these problems.
Guy #1: Yeah, yeah, I get that. But I'm saying that these days all the wife has to do is say he hurt her and suddenly he's got no rights at all! What's that about?
Me: Because [the state we live in] is infamous for a woman who was ignored all the times she went to the cops about her husband abusing her, she ended up dead, and now for some strange reason the cops err on the side of caution when they get reports of spousal abuse?
Guy #1: Yeah, but what if it's a false accusation? I'm telling you, men have no rights when this stuff happens. No recourse at all.
Me: Yeah, that's rough. If only men in this country could come up with some way to control the majority of the government to help make sure their rights were taken care of. Oh. Wait.
Guy #2: Women rule everything back at the house though, am I right?
Me: Tell you what, if you think we're really in charge and more in control than you, how's about we switch places?
Guy #1 and #2: [change subject]
