The first annual TBQ's family BBQ went well. The gathering wasn't as big as it could have been given that two brances of the family tree were missing. But, even so, a good time was had by all. There was the usual assortment of hot dogs, hamburgers, salads and whatnot, which are really just the method by which we convince ourselves that we've eaten enough real food that we can skip ahead to dessert (apple cake, chocolate marble cake, almond cookies, and ice cream - I made the almond cookies).
It'll be nice if this really does kick-start a tradition. Back when my brothers and I were kids the thing would be to go over to one of my uncle's houses for July 4th, and one of my aunt's for Xmas. We're the adults now, so it's our turn to start doing that. And fortunately Older Brother has a place that's centrally located (well, if you ignore the geometry problem presented by Elder Brother living out in Santa Ynez. But for the bulk of the family OB is now in the middle).
I was an idiot and did a lot of running around barefoot with my nieces, which is a fairly dumb thing to do after already abusing my foot with a walk downtown and then squatting down on tip-toes which I so should not be doing. So here's me popping Advil and putting ice on it. I'm telling you, I am just not qualified to take care of myself. I need a keeper. Sadly
cin1607 is off at Vividcon. Damn her!
I still have a yen to learn to knit socks.
