Knitting, work, msc.
May. 19th, 2005 11:35 amLast night I went to a knitting group! I lucked out with this one as I found it via Meetup, which some of you know recently moved to a system where if your group doesn't pay, you don't have a group. So literally just this week the group vanished, with all its event information taken away until somebody stepped up as organizer and fee-payer.
So if I'd been any later in finding it, I never would've found it at all.
But fortunately I had the info and decided to take a chance and go to the meetup anyway. It was in a bookstore so I figured worst case scenario I ask them what their Harry Potter situation is and then go home.
They were there! Knitters in the wild! The bookstore was nice enough to bring out a table and chairs just for us, and we all sat and knit and chatted for what turned out to be close to two and a half hours. There were eight of us in total, split evenly between those who had grey hairs (though only one was a proper grandmother, who talked about how her grandmother learned to knit back in the late 1800s) and those who were closer to my age. We looked at patterns, talked about projects, offered advice, and discussed such important matters as cats and tea. It was neat!
Turns out the Meetup thing happened because the women in the group who put the Meetup thing together in the first place never got any of the notifications about groups needing official organizers and fees. Plus they didn't think Meetup did enough for them to be worth paying any money. The group will still meet up, just not via Meetup. Which again is a bit of luck for me, because if I hadn't looked when I did I would've never found them.
What's nice too is that they meet once a month, which actually works out perfectly for my schedule.
I'm at work today, as I have been all week (there's no segue there). We're in the last day and a half of the boss being gone. I actually do have some things that need to be done before tomorrow at noon (which is when the rug cleaners come and I get to leave early! Wooo!).
Tonight is belly dance, tomorrow is half day of work then running some errands. This weekend is more errands - I'm hoping to at least get started on the plants for my porch, as I think the temps have finally evened out enough for me to feel safe in that regard - and if all goes well work on a story I need to put the finishing touches on by the end of May.
