Brunch today was steel-cut oatmeal with brown sugar, cinnamon, and raisins. On the side was cornbread, because I was in the mood for cornbread. To drink was English Breakfast tea, made from proper tea leaves because there is something about freshly brewed tea that you simply can't replicate with a bag. (I will never get tired of saying that.) (also, thank you [livejournal.com profile] obsessedmuch)

I find the whole oatmeal thing kind of amusing since as a child I hated the stuff and now I'm all "Oo! Oatmeal!" This is also like the time [livejournal.com profile] stakebait and I went to a restaurant together and were all "Oo! Chicken with spinach!" Clearly as you get older you turn into some kind of spinach-oatmeal eating freak, and this is why nobody over the age of 30 can be trustworthy.

(Then again, I was into spinach and oatmeal and such before I turned 30, but shh! Don't ruin a good theory with facts!)

Plans for today include exercise, the final bit of holiday stuff with my family, the uber-stress inducing meeting (which is unrelated to the holiday stuff with the family) and then, if I don't feel the need to go hide under my bed for the next five months because of the meeting, possibly trying to get some writing done tonight. Verily it's a non-stop madcap whirlwind here at chez TBQ. (aka Siam. No, I haven't forgotten, but I'll bet most of you have and are now nodding and smiling and humoring the crazy person. Which is also fine. 8) )

Unrelated to any of that (except, perhaps, my insanity) I had an idea for an LJ comm and I thought I'd post about it to ask if people were interested.

Basically a while back I mentioned something about living frugally while being single, and sharing tips about that, and a few people spoke up to say that they were interested. That got me to wondering: would anybody be interested in an LJ comm for fannish folk living (or attempting to live) frugally?

Here's my thoughts: it wouldn't be limited to single people like me, but I think the fannish bent could be useful because either you've got one extreme where you can't afford to, say, buy the new DVD collection for you fandom that just came out, or go to a con that all your friends are going to, and it'd be nice to have a place to go where people could give hugs and support for that. And also there's the other extreme where maybe you do drop a couple hundred bucks on a DVD set or a con, and it'd be nice to be around people who won't come down on you and be all "OMG that could have fed you/your family for a year you wasteful h0r!"

The group could be for any level of frugality. "Frugal" would be defined not as being a cheapskate, but rather "spending your money on what you want to spend it on". Which again isn't to say that someone who (I'm making up an extreme example here) refuses to spend more than a dollar on anything wouldn't be welcome there, it's just that that would be their personal definition of frugal because that's them spending their money the way they want to spend it. Somebody else might define frugal as saving money in one area of their life so that they've got it to spend on the books, DVDs, cable connection, whatever and that's fine too because that's their way of spending their money the way they want to spend it.

It wouldn't be about one single way of doing it, in other words, but about being helpful and supportive for anyone who wants to be mindful of where their money goes.

Does that make any kind of sense? If so, is that something any of you would be interested in?

ETA: The group has been created. It's called [livejournal.com profile] frugal_fans. =)
