Finally, finally, the Xmas decorations are up. This is in spite of a world which attempted to thwart my wreath needs (I ended up buying a real one) and a few curveballs by that thing we call "life" which threatened to make this weekend not the worst I've ever gone through, but certainly high up enough that it would break the top 20 (long story short, it's okay now, but I was not having fun for far too many hours today).
So the happy news is that in spite of everything, I was still able to sit down and enjoy a breakfast of cornmeal pancakes, for the first time this season. I was also able to wear fuzzy red Xmas socks and deck the halls and light the lights and then sit down and enjoy Chinese food, as the various RL issues kept me from cooking dinner as I had been looking forward to as well, but in the grand scheme of things I'm happier to order in Chinese with some problems averted than have to deal with problems not being averted at all.
The cats, as can be expected, are happy with the large new toy I've provided them. If they're anything like they were last year they'll more or less leave it alone, save for maybe breaking a couple of ornaments a week. Currently Luna is curled up in a small ball of furry adorableness underneath it in a way that couldn't be more cute if it tried.
I have to admit I love doing the Xmas decorating because for me it's not just putting pretty things up in the house. The tree, for instance, has some ornaments I bought myself which are nice in the "My mom stuck with gold ornaments all my life and now that it's my tree we're going to have some COLOR Claus-damn it!" way, but a lot of the ornaments are also gifts from friends. Some as a way of saying congrats on finally having my own tree, others from previous years when people knew I didn't have the ability to get my own stuff, so they sent their own. So looking at all that and seeing that kindness is a very nice thing indeed, and thanks again to those who made it happen.
I've also got my first card garland going. It currently has both birthday and Xmas cards on it, but I'll retire the birthday ones as the holiday ones take up more room. Haven't sent my cards out yet, unfortunately. I meant to do it this weekend but there goes the best-laid plans again. Luckily there's always more days in the week =) From this point on I'm also looking forward to holiday cooking as well. There's gingerbread cookies to make and desserts to try and a holiday dinner to plan with my mom! Now all we need is some snow! (though not on Thursdays, as that's belly dance class)
Finally, and with no segue whatsoever,
faemovana has created
fandompersonals, a place where you can try to find significant others who will bypass that silly stuff like pina coladas and getting caught in the rain for far more important things like advance tickets to Episode 3, or why yes, you really do need to spend your food budget on DVDs for a show you've already watched a hundred times.
No word yet on whether or not they'll also encourage people to do things like post where they stand on things like Spike vs. Angel, Ray V vs Ray K, and the differences between the LOTR books vs the movies in the same context as whether or not they're a smoker, but if you ask me they definitely should.
