Tea and... turkey?

It's cold and rainy here in the land of Siam (bet you thought I forgot about the name of my apartment, huh?) which makes it a perfect day for tea. My folks treated me to a proper tea at the same place
justhuman and I enjoyed tea while she was up here. This was the first time the folks had ever had high tea, and they enjoyed it muchly. They said they could see themselves going back there even without the excuse of treating me for my birthday, so I think that's neat. Nice to have tea converts.
Though it was a perfect day for tea with the cold and the rain, there was only me, my folks, and two other people at the first seating. This was actually nice, though, as the other two people were a grandmother and her granddaughter, the latter of who looked to be maybe 8 or 9 years old. Not having anyone else in the room meant I sometimes overheard their conversation, and it sounded like the grandmother was telling her granddaughter about what it was like for her when she lived in England years ago. It was kind of touching to have gotten this snapshot of what's probably going to be a happy memory for this little girl for a very long time.
It was the granddaughter's birthday too, so she and I both got cupcakes. 8)
(Speaking of birthdays, there was this conversation:
Me: So, does this kick off nine days of presents until my birthday arrives?
Mom: It's your birthday, it's not Chanukkah.
Me: Damn!)
On the upside, my folks laid down anvil-sized hints that they'd like me and my brothers to buy them a digital camera for Xmas, so that provided a nice segue into me pointing out my desire for a new PDA. Gotta love symmetry.
On the way home we nearly ran into a turkey. Luckily Dad's reflexes and his car brakes prevented us from getting Thanksgiving dinner early, but it still amazes me that there are turkeys simply wandering around town like overlarge pidgeons. Now if only I could get my hands on some chickens...
(ETA: Just in case it's not clear, today is not my birthday. My folks were just taking me out for it today to avoid the post Thanksgiving rush.)
