The good: People's advice and suggestions about external hard drives have led me to find various sales on recommended models which put the drive into a comfortable price range for me, and thus allow me to buy it on my own which both gets the fast backup system to me quicker, and also frees up my Xmas wish list.

The bad: This has resulted in me looking at PDAs, and forcing myself not to buy one of those too, even when I find them on sale.
