Talked with that Republican again. As far as he's concerned, Bush did "amazing" in the debate last night. He thought Bush was well-spoken and distinguished. I asked him how interrupting the moderator rated with him in terms of being "distinguished" and as far as he was concerned Bush "did what he had to do".
We then had a talk about the Iraq thing, which was back to this guy parroting the talking points. As far as he's concerned, Bush is right that no countries are going to help us as long as Kerry is saying - this is the guy quoting now - "wrong war, wrong time". I asked if he thought perhaps simply the fact that it wouldn't be Bush, who insulted these countries in the first place, might not help matters and he said he didn't think so at all. I then asked if it didn't bother him that Bush's method of dealing with Iraq was clearly not working, and we're losing what help we have and again he wasn't phased by this.
Considering that this guy thought Edwards did better in the VP debate than I did, I'm really starting to wonder if really what it boils down to is this guy just liking anybody who speaks with a Southern accent.
