Did still more spring cleaning today. I think I earn extra special bonus points for actually moving the mattress and box spring so I could vacuum under my bed. Yes, I know, I was that good. I expect my karmic gift of chocolate any day now. 8)

Made rolls c/o a recipe in the WWII cookbook I got out of the library yesterday. I'm finding the book fascinating. It's mostly recipes, but it throws in snippets of historic detail such as why were certain ingredients used, or what was it like for people dealing with the lack of an easy way to freeze things, and so on. I think I've discovered a whole new type of book to enjoy reading. I've got this one from the library and one from England about 10,000 years of British cooking which also combines talking about the time with giving recipes. If anybody knows any other books like this, ie bits of history about food combined with recipes - doesn't matter what country or time period - please let me know. I'd love to get my hands on them but have no idea what sort of keyword to use for handy-dandy searching. "Historic cooking"?

Anyway, did the rolls, which were called cereal rolls and the idea was you saved whatever leftover oatmeal or other cooked cereal you had that morning and put it into making rolls for dinner that night. Which is just a nifty concept when you come to think of it. The rolls were good. Slightly sweet but very tasty. I had them mostly plain but could easily see them with butter or jam.

The pancetta sauce I was looking forward to for days did not come out as tasty. It was okay but not great. I would've liked more of a kick to it, and the peas become totally mushy by the time the thing is done. In hindsight I should've figured that out and known to throw the peas in closer to the end, instead of the stage they say, but oh well. It was good enough to try and now I know not to bother saving the recipe.

I've got another one for an olive sauce that I might try next week =) And tomorrow I'll be visiting a butcher in town. I didn't even know we had a butcher in town. I've been using what passes for a butcher in the local grocery store, but I'd love to find a guy who could be relied on to talk about cuts of meat and such.

I've really turned into quite the food geek, huh?

Oh! Speaking of things to geek about, Prime Suspect will, in my area at least, be repeating later on in the night. So I've been able to set up the Tivo for 24, QAF, and PS. PS is also four hours total, so be aware that there's a part two airing next week as well.

While we're on the subject of TV, I've decided that I'm going to safeword out of any more talk of the Angel finale. I won't say anymore regarding why as it would get into the land of revealing spoilers, so suffice it to say I've said my part for now and I'm content to go sit on the bench and be quiet about it until the episode airs.

And I think that does it for today's wrap up. Only other thing I can think to mention is that Wolf and I have agreed to a "I'll show you mine if you show me yours" type arrangement with a story of hers that's Angel/Wes post Apocalypse and me actually writing a slightly revamped Angel/Wes arranged marriage meets concubine kinkficapalooza. So go nag her to write if you want arranged marriage stuff. Or just nag her to write b/c the bunny she's got is a good one. ;)

With that I bid you good night!
