Buffy bad news, Angel good news

thebratqueenFirst, the good news - Steve DeKnight is joining the writers on Angel! Yes!. God, tell me the writer's stable next year is nothing but Steve, Tim, Jeff and David Fury and I am a happy, happy TBQ. Knowing Steve is in the ranks actually gets me hopeful for season 4.
Then, the bad news
In an interview Steve (who did, in fact, write Seeing Red) admitted that the Spuffy rape scene was suggested by Marti one week before the ep was created. Oh you've got to be shitting me.
The word on the street is that it was decided that Spike had to do something "extreme" to both lose the audience's sympathy and make us care more about Buffy. Bloody fucking Hell. They pulled this out of their asses?? God does that explain a lot.
I'd rant more but I'm at work. Serves me right for catching up on fandom news on my lunch break.
