I'll be shutting up soon, promise
Dec. 17th, 2003 06:42 pmOkay, I know I'm spamming a bit today and I swear I'll be leaving for RotK soon and that'll be the last out of me until tomorrow.
But I wanted to leave you with this:
I was just talking with someone about Bush's support of an anti-gay Amendment to the Constitution and their response was, basically, "Pfft, it'll never pass."
Lemme say here what I said to them: That's not the point.
The point is that Bush actually feels strongly enough to say this in public.
The point is that Bush doesn't have to modify the Constitution to fuck us over bigtime. The war in Iraq didn't require an Amendment. Our deficit didn't require an Amendment. Patriot Act I didn't require an Amendment.
Bush hates gays enough that he'd be happy to modify the Constitution if that's what it took. But as it stands right now he doesn't need to do that. He can do plenty with the power that he has and especially if he can get Congress to back him (see also: Iraq, deficit, Patriot Act).
So the fight here isn't "Let's make sure he doesn't do an anti-gay Amendment". It's "Let's make sure they know we're not going to stand for this kind of intolerance in any form."
Constitutional Amendments are the least of our worries right now.
