Msc afternoon updates
Apr. 30th, 2002 03:37 pmFirst off thanks to everybody who's been giving me advice on the laptop situation. I'm starting to think that for my needs I may get a cheap new one - or as cheap as I can get. All hail the wonder that is price shopping on the net.
I mention the laptop idea to my boss - bear in mind I'm paying for this myself, I'm just saying it'll be used for work same as my current home computer is used for work - and she tells me "Oh no! Use the work computers! That way you can be with everyone else!" as in physically in the room with other people. I had to write back and politely point out that the fun thing with laptops is that they're portable and therefore I can be in the room with everyone else while still leaving a computer free for a student or something.
Plus you'd think she would have been on the page of one of my original points which was that if the files I'm working on are on a laptop that means none of our students are going to get to them and fuck them up. But it's just been one of those weeks for my boss.
Side recommendation for the day - Frontier House, airing on PBS. The first 2 hours were on last night and it was great! In my area they've got it continuing to play tonight and tomorrow (for the total 6 hour miniseries) and I will totally be watching and taping whatever I miss. The premise is they've got 3 families spending 5 months out in Montana recreating the days of Little House on the Prairie. It's based on the concept of The 1900 House which also kicked ass. My fav. comments from both shows is when the people doing it say "I thought this was going to be fun!" as in no work. Ha! Read a history book much? Now pardon me while I go worship at the alter of my indoor plumbing and refrigeration.
