Thank you for coming over and watching Angel. As 1.1 million of you were happy to do it and give us a full season, lemme just say that honestly we do appreciate it.
That being said, can I respectfully ask you to mount a stepladder and get over yourselves, because if one more of you makes it clear that you are being so noble as to deign to bother to give Angel the show a half second of your time but only because Spike is on it and otherwise we all know that AtS is a total waste of time I am not going to be held responsible for my actions which, I feel a need to add, may or may not involve your head and a tackhammer.
Look, Chuckles, our show kicked your character's ass last year. Your boy hasn't been written consistantly for going on a year and a half now and it wasn't until he hit our show again that he vaguely started to resemble somebody who might have once been in the possession of testicles. Otherwise Spike was the suck and you know it. Yeah, yeah - meta problems, didn't know if he was getting the spin-off, blah di blah. I don't care. We had meta problems up Charisma's uterus and we still managed to have a solid season with few moments that make us want to cough and distract you with stuffed animals.
Have the first 3 episodes of Angel s5 had some wobbly moments? Sure. You know what? A lot of that involves your boy, not ours. We're being forced to ram a square peg into a round hole without any lube and gosh guys, we're sorry if it can't be done in two seconds. I wonder whatever odd element out could possibly be on the show now that's keeping it from having a smooth flow? Gee, let's think....
Look, don't get me wrong, I used to like Spike in the old days and once his weiner self is dead and buried forever I look forward to liking him again. And because I am a cheap whore I'm happy to have y'all here because you provide the ratings so to a certain extent feel free to insult the show all you like as long as you keep getting it renewed.
And it's not all Spike fen I'm bitching about. It's just the ones out there who feel the need to post things like "Oh? Spike only had two seconds of screentime then? Guess it's a good thing I didn't bother watching." which make me want to tear my hair out because dear God at least pretend that you're not that shallow.
I swear one of these days I'm going to make an icon of Spike with the caption of "Lord, save me from your followers".
Back to your regularly scheduled non-rantage.
ETA: Just to clarify, because someone explained this to me in the comments, I was not aware that in some circles "rabid Spike fen" is now being used to describe all Spike fen. For the record I find that just as obnoxious. I'm not slamming Spike fen, I'm not even slamming Spike. I'm just saying I don't like the idiots out there who somehow think it's going to win friends and influence people in the Angel fandom to make it perfectly clear that they think the show sucks except for the .02 seconds that Spike has a screenshot. So really I'm not even slamming the people who are all "Yay, Spike!" about it either, it's the specifically spoken insults to the show that I'm not overly fond of.
And as I say, lumping all Spike fen together as being obnoxious is an asshatty thing to do too and anybody who wants to make assumptions about Spike fans in general should probably take another look at the banner that's on top of my LJ.
Ditto to those Spike fen who thought I was slamming the boy 'cause dude, I'm an equal opportunity slammer and I've been slamming the rabid Wes fen for weeks now for bitching and moaning about Spike stealing Wes's screentime.
So, to sum up: extremeism bad, stupidity bad, fandom in need of a chill pill on all sides of the equation. Right? Right.
