Sting's album still rocks like a rocking thing. It's called Sacred Love, go buy it. Even my boss thinks it's cool (and have I mentioned the brand-new CD changer we got here in the office? no more listening to cheesy morning radio shows doing prank calls. ah, bliss).

Angel tonight. I've already seen it but hey - now I get to watch it again. Plus on a bigger screen than my monitor. Where is the wrong to be found there?

In other news, I'm going to steal a page from [livejournal.com profile] eliade and give some advance warning about something that's not going to go well with me this season of Angel. Specifically, much though you know I am obsessed with a die-hard fan of Wes, please do not try to engage me in the "Wes is going to get no screen time now that Spike's coming!!!!!!" panic that's sweeping some of fandom.

'cause here's the thing:

First off, the show hasn't started yet so calm down. Second they haven't even written most of the season yet so calm down. Third what do you want, more Wesley or more good storylines with Wesley? Because ol' Wes had a lot to do in season three, and easily 70% of that involved the amazing lack of chemistry that was his so-called relationship with Fred. You wanna bring that back on your TV screen? Seriously?

I am, first and foremost, a fan of good writing. I'm not an Angel/Cordy shipper but I was fine with it last season because it was written well. It worked for Angel's character. I'm not going to thumb my nose at good writing just because it doesn't support my personal preferences. My preferences are a separate issue.

If it were up to me Angel would air on Showtime and involve naught but angst and copious amount of onscreen sex with Angel and Wesley. However I do not write the show. I watch the show and I try to enjoy it.

Did I squirm at the idea of bringing Spike onto the show? Yes, because this was for a meta reason, ie they wanted higher ratings (as opposed to a more organic reason such as the storyline demanding Spike show up). So, because I like good writing, I chew my nails a bit and worry that this might not go well. I don't pronounce it a death knell though until I see it. There's been a lot of stuff that was done for meta reasons that worked out fine (Connor). Spike is just as likely to be one of them. (Even moreso, considering that the Angel staff has a history of taking Buffy characters and adding scarily wonderful amounts of depth to them, see also: Faith, Darla, Harmony and, oh yeah, WESLEY).

Bitching and moaning about Wes's amazing disappearing screentime before you've even watched the damn show is, to me, no different than the WB ignoring what's organic to the show and demanding that Spike show up. Yeah, you both can bitch and moan about it but I personally would rather trust the writers. We've got an amazing team this year. Why not give them the benefit of the doubt?

Does this mean that I won't be bitching later if Wes isn't used well? Of course not. Please, you've met me before. But I won't pre-emptively bitch about something that may or may not happen. And I'll bitch, again, if it's because of bad writing.

I love my show, I love my show when it's good. Lord knows when it's bad we've got enough to complain about with what they give us. Please don't include me in this attempt to get ulcers over things that haven't even happened yet.
