What's the Food Network thinking?
Apr. 21st, 2002 06:25 pmThe Food Network has a new show. Now here's the concept: the host goes around the world to show you how you can "enjoy gourmet fare on a pauper's budget". Okay, you might be thinking, sounds good. What's the problem?
It's called $40 A Day. How the hell is 40 bucks poor?? Even if we're taking the cooking for yourself thing out of the equation (where if you can't figure out how to feed yourself for less than 10 bucks a day you're wasting your cash) that's 40 bucks for 3 square meals a day. Which averages to $13.34/meal. Breakfasts tend to be cheaper than lunches which are cheaper than dinners, so when you spread that out over the day you're basically just paying the regular costs.
So what this show really is is "how to eat at gourmet restaurants for the price of eating at gourmet restaurants". Um - okay. Glad we filled that niche.
