Rainy Saturday
Jun. 7th, 2003 01:39 pmThere's nothing like a rainy day off. Esp for housecleaning. Step one is to fling the windows wide open and let in all that cool air and already things are improved a thousandfold.
Today shall be a day of finally getting around to all the little tasks I need to do but have been putting off because of sheer laziness.
Task one,
kaytee4ever's interview questions:
1. What books helped shaped who you are today and what did you gain from them?
I was about to start answering this question with the books that have influenced my writing, but then I reread and realized this was a far more general life kind of thing. Although to a certain extent the writing books have some overlap here, because if it wasn't for - god help me - the early work of Anne Rice I wouldn't have gotten into fanfic when I did and I would've missed out on a lot of good friends and opportunities that arose because of it. Likewise
lucifrix and I bonded over, amongst other things, a love of Dave Barry.
Otherwise I'd say a lot of the psych books I read and still read somewhat obsessively. I love knowing how the mind works and having a handle on that can help you both understand yourself better and know how to relate to other people. Also, funnily enough, the How to Talk series of books which are actually geared more towards parents but I read them back when I was but a wee brat and they definitely gave me the skills needed to effectively communicate with people.
2. What person has had the most impact on your life and how did this person impact you?
Gotta go for a twofer and say my parents. I would not be the woman I am today without them. Both because they set the groundwork for me to have things like confidence and morals, but also because they encouraged me to find my own path. I think they did the best job parents can do, which is to say give your child the tools he/she needs to get by in life, then trust that they'll know what to do with them when the time comes.
3. If you could change your career and do anything else (money, time, training being no object) what would you most love to do?
Besides professional slash writer? ;) Possibly public speaking. I'm good at it and I feel I've got a lot I could tell people. I could be the next Tony Robbins, only not so tall and scary.
