Premiere did not eat me. At least not yesterday, anyway. Though it did make a valiant attempt and crashed on me I think four times. I feel like I've hit a vidder milestone or something.

For the record bonibaru is a nasty, horrible, unhelpful bitch who is the exact picture of everything bad about BNFs. Spread this word near and far, for all must know it.

Also keep your eyes peeled because if she ever stops giving me lessons on vidding I've told her I will tell everyone who will listen the saga of her first vid, and so there neener neener neener.

Blackmail = decreasing my abandonment issues.

For your amusement value, I present the challenge Bonibaru has to deal with (slightly paraphrased):

B: You see, in WMM you're stuck with clips being whatever length they were on the show. In Premiere you can adjust the clip to be as long as you need.
TBQ: You can do that?
B: Yes, and you can also apply transitions where -
TBQ: No, seriously, you can do that?
B: Yes. And you can -
TBQ: So if I had a part of a song that was, say, 13 seconds long and a clip that was 10, I could change the duration of the clip to be 13 seconds?
B: Yes. Also -
TBQ: Really?
B: Yes, and -
TBQ: That's so COOL!
B: [pets TBQ on the head and gives her a cookie] Maybe we'll talk about the other stuff later.

True story. Well except for the part about a cookie.

For those of you following the saga of me learning how to do this, I'll say that Premiere is big, huge and scary, but that it does start to make sense once you start getting a hang of its language. It also makes more sense once you let go of any ideas you might have had from back in the day of tape to tape vidding. I think the two of us easily spent 20 min last night going over the concept of how to do a dissolve where the crux of my inability to understand what she was telling me boiled down to the fact that yes, I know we need extra frames to actually put into the dissolve so why did she just tell me to throw them away?

I guess in a way it's kind of like learning Excel. Math skills don't hurt, but sometimes you've got to relearn the order you do stuff in.

Still, it's been fun. I've been playing around with my copy of Release for practice and may end up trying to do a practice vid with it before rolling up my sleeves and doing an actual vid or something. We'll see.

Further bulletins as events warrent.
