Saturday ramblings
Apr. 26th, 2003 11:58 amCaught a tiny bit of White Nights while getting ready for work this morning. The slash in that is canon, right?
Today finds me in the midst of a lovely rainy Saturday. Perfect day for making sooooooouuuuup except Elder Brother is in town so I'm having dinner with him and the folks tonight. But I'll at least go shopping for the ingredients so I can have my crock pot make a soup for me on Monday.
Yesterday found me spending all day at the Met, which is so my home away from home. I got to see my pal the Temple of Dendur again and just - happy sigh. Also just generally prowled around, enjoying a little bit of everything. My only beef was the Spanish/French special exhibit which was crowded to fuck and back for no reason I could really see so I finally had to haul out of there. I can't cope with looking at artwork on other people's schedules.
Stayed up way too late last night playing around with the Manor House website. I am so this show's bitch already. I think I'm going to have to try to watch as much as I can while it's originally airing and then pickup whatever I missed in reruns.
Did their online house tour and got way too excited when I thought the two footmen had to share a bed. Then, you know, the camera panned right and I saw the other bed there. But come on. You can't tell me that wasn't the profession for gay couples back then. You're hired based on your ability to look hot in the livery, you share a room, you're not allowed to fraternize with the female servants - sheesh, do the math.
Mind you, this gave me my one, tiny, boy-you-can-tell-I-went-to-Barnard moment about the website, which was a regret that they didn't actually mention what gay culture was like back then. Which wouldn't bug me, however vaguely it's bugging me, if the website had focused on everything but the bedroom, but when you've got a section about sex during Edwardian times then toss me a footnote if nothing else. It's weird thinking that historically speaking I'm invisible.
Aaaaand now I have to pretend to be working again. Not that I log on from the office. Nope. Not me. La la la.
