Happy Spring, bright and gay
Apr. 13th, 2003 11:52 amDidn't get nearly as much sleep last night as I would've thought I would, given how tired I was. Not sure if this means I was just really efficient about it or if I'll be needing a nap later.
Today is positively gorgeous, in that "throw open all the windows and let the fresh air take over" way. The cats, of course, now have Spring fever and are happily tearing through the house in a friendly (for now) game of tag.
Not that this is news to me but man do I enjoy cooking. Which is funny considering that I only started to do it because I was trying to be frugal. I didn't do it because I was attempting to get a new hobby or anything, like when I taught myself crochet and whatnot. But of all the hobbies I've tried, cooking is the one that makes me happiest.
At the moment, fwiw, I'm trying a new recipe for puff pancakes. We'll see how that goes.
/me looks over to see both cats nonchalantly walking across the diningroom table and wonders since when is Luna a bad influence on Mac
/me liberally applies use of squirt bottle then goes back to typing
The funny thing was that when
wolfling was over I didn't make a damned thing. Too busy with packing and whatnot for the con. We survived on frozen pizza and chinese food the 2 nights we had to eat in. I felt like I wasn't living up to my reputation. Same thing happened when
buffybot came up to help me write the last Epiphany (the one already posted, don't get your hopes up), but BB has eaten some of my baked goods before so she at least knows I'm not totally making all of this up ;)
Still poking the menu for Easter. I've narrowed it down to a few dishes and will decide during the week what will make it to the final round. I think I'll have the folks take care of dessert, just so it's one less thing on my mind.
Today I'm going to attempt to do various little things that I need to do, like vacuum and catch up on my emails. (Side note to Zort, Wolf and MP - haven't sent out the emails about that thing yet but will definitely do it this week if not today. I did talk to
miss_edith though so we're all systems go there.) If possible I'll also try to do the Xmas fic dribble. (BTW, I'm anal retentive enough that even though nobody has mentioned it, I feel a need to point out I know that the usual word is "drabble" but I'm calling them "dribbles" because that's more or less how they're coming out of my brain.) (Speaking of brains, MP, z? Am I the only one who just flashed back to that photo we were looking at last night? [Sideshow Bob shudder])
And as long as I'm using this to send out random notes to people, hey
lucifrix? Did you see that Food Network is doing How to Boil Water again? They're not rerunning the old eps, though. It's a new version with a female comedian and a male cook. I watched it this morning and it seems okay. I wonder if they'll manage to avoid the mistake of the other one and not make the whole thing too fussy.
Tonight is dinner with the folks. Not to name names or anything b/c I'm having a paranoid moment about the people I'm talking about stumbling across this LJ (as I know that one of them actually has a journal or blog of some sort so it's vaguely possible) but lemme just say that yesterday I watched a father and daughter of approx my dad's age and approx my age interact and I feel the need to give my dad a big huge hug for the fact that we've got a good relationship. It's weird watching a father and daughter interact when there hasn't been abuse or anything yet they just don't get along. Not that my dad and I always speak the same language or don't have our spats, but those tend to be moments in and of themselves, not an innate inability on our part to even figure out how to say "hello" to each other. My parents are definitely spiff.
