I wrote to the radio station c/o their website:
To whom it may concern,
I listen to [station] every day during my work day. We play your station here at the office because it is easy listening and therefore soothing to the patients that come in.
This morning, however, was not soothing.
Please tell your staff and your DJs that I do not care about their political or religious opinions. Frankly, I'm appalled by the sudden use of patriotic music, such as the recently played "Proud to be an American" since I see nothing about the current actions of our country to be proud about. But I respect that there are differing points of view and that some are comforted by patriotic music during times of crisis. Fine.
However, your bumpers about your station's patriotic pride and your DJ's comments (such as the recent one of "Lee Greenwood, telling it like it is - God Bless America") are inappropriate and out of place. You are a music station. Play music. If I wanted to hear political or religious opinions I would turn to talk radio. I don't care if your DJs support the war in Iraq. I don't care if they DON'T support the war in Iraq. I don't want to hear it on a radio station that is dedicated to music. I want to hear music, not tiny op-ed pieces.
Please stop using the political bumpers and tell your DJs to keep their political and/or religious opinions to themselves or I will be changing the station. Thank you.
Sincerely,
