Haven't posted about belly dance in a while because, um, I'm lazy.

But classes are still going on! The schedule's been on and off thanks to the weather, but luckily for the most part when I can't make it nobody else can either, so I don't miss much.

We're averaging about five students a class now. Not always the same students, but five students nonetheless. This is good because that way the dancing has the group dynamic that Tribal's known for. Even if you're a total n00b student you can still join in and add to the vibe.

Experience-wise I'm starting to reach the point where I know just enough that I can not worry as much about the rudamentary things and can now focus on the fine tuning. Like I know how to hip bump and choo choo, so now let's work on making my arms actually look nice while I'm doing said moves, rather than pretty much looking stuck there.

We're also learning some fun stuff, now that we can get past the basics. Tonight we learned what my teacher has dubbed "the cool move". For you Tribal fans in the group it's two Arabics, an Arabic twist, then a - I'm going to misspell this - Gehlman (German?) turn done in succession. On its own it's pretty cool, but done in a circle with the dancers going in and out towards center it's even neater looking.

What's nice about moving on towards things like this is that classwise I feel like we're really getting into the "lifetime to master" aspect of the dance. The moves themselves aren't complicated per se, but when you combine them and do them in a group and add layers onto them it becomes that much more challenging, but challenging in the good way.

My teacher says that we're all doing so well now that we're starting to look like a troupe. She wants us to start slowly working towards getting some outfits together. Which I really want to do and have been wanting to do for a while, but between Connexions, Vinnie's play, and a thousand other little expenses that all came due this month I am seriously one cash-strapped TBQ. So it's wistful looks for me for at least a month or two. Ah well.

Anyway, that's the latest from my corner of the world of belly dance.
