You know,
stuff like this just makes me want to cry. Especially when I click on the various testimonials completely at random and see people who have essentially managed to place blame for their problems on the one thing that wasn't causing them
and found a therapist who encouraged them to do so. Sexuality aside, I'd be as upset by this as if it was people writing about how their therapists told them they could get over their 9-11 trauma by no longer wearing the color blue.
"I can have same-sex friends now without sex taking place!" Well good for you! This has nothing to do with being straight or gay! I'm bi and believe me there are plenty of people of
both genders that I'm not fucking right now (currently that number totals 6 billion) nor do I want to (a number that's about, give or take, 5,999,999,985). This is like low-cal Bailey's Irish Cream, guys. If you're getting fat because you're drinking too much Bailey's, perchance calories were not your largest concern.
Hauling this back to sex (because why not?) the thing that also bugs me is that no matter how much they try to dress this stuff up in feel-good "We're just empowering individuals to change if they want to" type talk, when push comes to shove and you click enough links you can see it's the same damn message: We changed, so therefore everyone can change, so therefore stop being gay.
And you know what? I'm so amazed that that argument manages to continue. Let's assume this as a given. Go for it. I have no problem. Sexuality is a choice. You got it. You won. So WHAT? My wearing contact lenses instead of glasses is a choice too. Would anybody in their right mind think it was okay to write laws that dictated my vision correction? (Possibly this is a scary question to ask in Dubya's USA where if terrorists wore contacts I'm actually fairly damn certain that they'd be outlawed).
But the point is rational people wouldn't do that. No idiot would come up to me at a Baskin-Robbins and say "TBQ, the fact that you ordered rocky road is a choice. Therefore I have the right to pressure you into ordering vanilla fudge swirl from now on." That wouldn't even be a
conversation. So why does this sexuality one continue? What moron do I blame for even allowing this whole choice nonsense to continue past the first utterance of it? That dipshit should've been laughed out of the protest march and forced to go home and take a correspondance course on how to have a
real argument before being allowed out of the house again.
You know, come to think of it, being a
dipshit is a choice too. Can I write laws to make that illegal now?
