Things I don't get
May. 20th, 2002 10:40 amNot to start off a huge debate about abortion but here's something that bugs me. I was researching something just now about birth control and to my annoyance a page that presented itself as a "just the facts" website actually turned out to be very much pro-life. So that level of lying and misinformation bugs me.
But what bugged me more was as I scanned the page and I see the phrase "these children, who could grow up to discover the cure for cancer or..." and I stop right there because HUH? How is that the point? Like is it only okay to abort the kids who aren't going to discover a cure for cancer? And these kids are about as likely to grow up to become serial killers as they are cancer-curers so which possibility wins out on the judgement?
Can't you just defend your stance from the "all life is sacred" thing and leave it at that? I mean what was the thought process there? Like someone who's going to get an abortion is going to sit there and say "Well I'm totally unqualified to raise children, the foster and adoption systems of this country suck ass and everything in me says that I should not have this baby but now that you've brought up this cancer thing I'll give it another thought."?
Sigh.
