TBQ: I'm sorry, he's with a patient right now. Can I help you?
NP: Yes, I need to schedule an appointment.
TBQ: Ah, all right then, you can schedule an appointment with me.
NP: [contemptuously] With you?
TBQ: [blinks, then gets it] No, ma'am. You'll be seeing the doctor but I'm the one who will actually put your appointment into the schedule.
NP: [doubtful] Well... okay.
TBQ: Alrighty then.
So yes, in fact, there are people who have never heard of the concept of a receptionist before. Who knew?
