Okay, I think I've got a fair eye for picking up "obvious" (ie "Badly done") CGI and other than one shot of Gollum which overall had a different "feel" to it I can't say anything with Gollum or Treebeard struck me as hideous. Quite the opposite.
However, I've seen a few people say that this is not the case (
cin1607, for instance, said she thought the greenscreening of Treebeard wasn't nearly as good as the greenscreening for Gollum). And not just in a "my eye is more refined than yours" kind of way, but in a "God wasn't it horrible how on Oz's werewolf costume you could basically see the zipper?" way.
Which leads me to wonder if this is a projector issue. I've seen it at different theaters (once while deliberately looking for CGI weaknesses) and come away with the same conclusions as always, but I'm wondering if it's possible that some theaters are screwing with the settings of their projectors (which some do in a misguided belief that this prolongs the life of the bulb) and if this is what's causing the obvious vs well done difference.
Just my random thought of the day.
Well, the random thought I'm sharing. I'll keep the one about the ego filly to myself. And, well, select cabal members.
