Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
Looking back I find I wrote more fic than I thought I had but I think that's a separate issue from what I predicted. I don't really predict what I'll write. I do this for fun, not goal-setting. So I write what I write. But if you asked me I wouldn't have guessed at how many stories I churned out this year. (Too tired to give the hard numbers but suffice it to say I would have guessed that only arc 3 of Epiphany was written this year, not as much of arc 2 as there is.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January 2002?
Well I would've said Lilah/Wes but I think the Wes/Cordy and Giles/Willow of
wes_visions_rpg has beaten that little canon pairing hands-down. Not totally sure anything else I ever write is going to top it either.
Granted, blame credit for both of those needs to be shared with
wesleysgirl and
wolfling. But still. I was an accomplace if nothing else.
What's your favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest.
Gonna have to go with story arc and the "Wes in an alt dimension" one wins hands down. I'm very fond of Cat & Mouse so far and arc 3 of Epiphany (the Then/Now stuff which came out as well as I hoped it would) but something about the alt dimension story arc just makes me happy. I think it's because it hit every mark that I wanted it to. Or at least - was the first thing in the series that really hit every mark that I wanted it to. B/c the Then/Now arc did much the same thing but doesn't make me purr as much. So maybe there's something to be said for being the first.
Did you take any writing risks this year? (See above for unexpected pairings, etc.) What did you learn from them?
A few. The alt dimension arc was one. I wasn't sure anybody would go with me on such a "show" type concept in a series that had built itself around day to day stuff and not monsters of the week.
To a lesser extent I was worried about the story where Wes shoots Angel. Again I wasn't sure people would stick with me after such a violent act. There's also an upcoming bit that I won't talk about, but which was set into motion by events in arc 4 that's going to be another, alt-dimension style challenge for everybody reading the series so - we'll see if I keep my readers after it ;)
In other areas, Cat & Mouse was a deliberate attempt on my part to try writing with a different narrative style, just to see if I could (and because I thought it fit with the darker tone of the piece).
Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year?
Having a profic is something of a goal. If by pro we mean "I get paid". Other than that? I guess to get through arc 4 successfully ;)
