thebratqueenSo I find out this morning that Hartford Archbishop Daniel A. Cronin has asked Catholic churches across the state of CT to circulate a petition against same-sex marriages and essentially for the Defense of Marriage Act. Sigh. Yeah - 'cause this is the big issue the Chruch should be worried about right now.
I called up my folks and my dad said his church didn't even mention it. Wasn't even a blurb in the bulletin. Yay! I had hoped not and was glad to be proven right. But the church Dad goes to is one of the few that I think actually gets what being Catholic is supposed to mean. They never got caught up on the stupid bullshit that the Church tends to get caught up on. Case in point, they had alter girls long before the Vatican said it was okay (because, you know, if girls rang the bells and lit the candles, the baby Jesus would cry).
It also made me glad that I'd come out to my folks. Not that my folks were ever homophobic to begin with, but when I heard the news story my heart sank for all the other churches out there but I knew if my Dad's church had done something he would have been more likely to do something in return just because he knows this is a group of people speaking against his little girl.
And one of these years I'll get around to telling my brothers. But honestly that's self-defense as much as anything else. When Elder Brother starts in on one of his lectures about how I should live my life, I wanna have that in my arsenal to throw at him to totally deflect the conversation elsewhere ;)
(Plus EB and OB don't live in CT, so moot point)
Anyway, thought some people would be interested in the CT scoop. If nothing else, I thought y'all might want to vote in a poll to show support for gay marriages. (It's in a sidebar on the left) That link tells the story about the CT churches too.
