Sep. 4th, 2002 09:22 pmNew work schedule is going to bite me on the butt for a while, I can tell. Or at least until I get used to a job where online access is non existant. I suspect the actual schedule will sort itself out with time. I just need to figure out the 8 hours at an actual office, then eat, gym, email, shower, go to bed early. Previous jobs have all involved some measure of telecommuting, so this is new for me.
On the plus side the 8 hours per day are scattered, so I get Fridays or Saturdays off, depending on which one we're open for, and Mondays are 1-8, which means that I've actually gained an extra day to sleep in if I need to (y'all might remember me saying I need days with no alarm to reset my system).
Right now I'm still learning everything, so it all goes slow. I suspect once I get the routine down this will be v. v. quick. Can't remember if I told you all what it was - basically I'm Cordy at a dentist's office. He does the medical stuff, I manage the office. The good thing is that Boss is happy to teach me everything and repeat stuff when I don't get it the first time, the worrying thing is that he seems happy to teach me about dentist stuff too. I can't tell if this is so I'll know how to set up the exam rooms for specific appointments (which I will need to know how to do) or if it's because he's actually hoping I'll follow in his footsteps someday (the statement "I can teach anyone how to be a dentist in six months" is a touch worrying). Words can't express how much I don't want to be a dentist. I feel that there must be some musical pastishe from Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and Little Shop of Horrors that I need to combine, insert the word "not" into at many intervals, and then sing it. Often.
I did find out that we're getting a computer someday, just no ETA on when. My sly pitch for net access, aka "Hey - do you want me to make you a website?" didn't go over because he's not interested, plus apparently he can get one made free thanks to insurance companies so he'd rather have me doing other things. OTOH he did perk up a little when I talked about online billing, contacting customers in email, etc.
But, on the other other hand it looks like there's always something to do, so even if there was a computer with access, I don't know that I'd have the time to use it. Plus with just him and me in the office it'd be really hard to surf or write without it being obvious. Looks like I'll have to confine myself to nights and days off.
In other news the world blew up last night. HUGE storm came through around 4 am and didn't leave until 6, give or take. And when I say HUGE I mean it. You know thunderstorms and how there's at least one or two cracks of thunder that make you jump? Picture two hours of nothing but that every 30 seconds. Poor Mac didn't know what to do with himself. Sleep was also a non existant thing. Luckily I got off work a little bit early (no more patients plus Boss was tired too - he also lives in town) so I was able to grab a nap.
Hey, here's a thought - maybe tonight I'll get some proper sleep. Be a nice change of pace ;)
