I love my friends. They are strange and silly and I like that about them.

I do not love my super's phone, which has chosen this afternoon to stop working right when I finally get around to calling him about the fact that my tub won't drain, screws up the other bathroom fixtures until it does, and no amount of anti-clog stuff poured down the drain does anything. Plus I'm hungry, and I don't deal well with problems when I'm hungry.

Random trivia of the day: Did you know that the actress who played Jenny Calendar used to be a Prince girl? Color me surprised. I didn't know she had it in her. So to speak.

I saw a commercial last night which had me cracking up. You know those little hand-held sewing machines? It was an ad for those. It started out good by pointing out how you could fix a hem at work, bring it with you on vacation, etc. and I'm thinking Okay, so far we have correctly described how a hand-held sewing machine would differ from the regular kind.

But then you get this shot of an old woman with a stand-up sewing machine which she has dragged over to curtains that are still on the rod in order to fix them. Now this is riduclous but I'm prepared to go with it under the law of infomercials, which is that the simpliest tasks are always too hard to do, so I'm waiting for them to talk about how you can fix problems with your curtains without taking them off of the rod.

Nope. In fact they tell you that you can make curtains using their sewing machine and, moreover, regular sewing machines don't do that.

Whaa? And hence my quote - guys, go to the drapery industry, there are millions of them. I assure you that the regular sewing machines have been handling this just fine so far, but thanks for the offer.

What cracks me up is that they even give you a before and after shot, where before is a window with no drapes and after is a window with. Considering that the shot leading into this showed the woman trying to work on the drapes while they were on the rod, I can only assume that we're supposed to make drapes on the rod, and I so can't see how that would be easier to do than to take them down, sew them on a table, then thread them through the rod. But this is perhaps why I haven't made lots of money on the Pocket Fisherman either.
