I was talking about these with [livejournal.com profile] catscradle and [livejournal.com profile] stakebait yesterday so I thought I'd share:

A woman who has apparently never heard of Occam's Razor.

What I find great about that story is how she's not even speaking metaphorically about angels. Also that apparently it's a real miracle to her that gas stations sell gas and grocery stores sell, you know, grocery related items.

I don't get this one and here I am the choir. (Warning - about abortion)

What amazes me on this one isn't so much the bad writing (although it's a factor) as the fact that it makes no sense. "Considering getting an abortion? Well here's a fictional account based on nothing to help you change your mind!" Huh? I could have vaguely been on board for a letter written from the POV of scientific facts about life in the womb (eg "Dear Mom - hey look! I've got fingers!") but a vague letter about a kid who wanted to be born but isn't? As though the woman getting the abortion was somehow unaware that after 9 months the usual result is a child?

I can't help but wonder what's next in the series. ("Dear maker of food - for years I've enjoyed being your dining table and was hoping to enjoy a few years more. Why did you chop me into firewood and use me to roast marshmellows?")

Finally there's This CNN article which [livejournal.com profile] catscradle pointed me towards. It's amazing how even an organization like CNN doesn't understand that the plural of "anecdote" is not "data".
